My very special Tiki Update Problems

I've been using tw since 1.8.4 released. As a matter of fact, I have added/changed many features of it to make it compliant with my needs. Now, my problems are:

1- How can I upgrade it to the latest stable release without much pain? As you may guessed, it's a nightmare to upgrade it with those huge modifications/extensions I made to it.

2- I read many documents anout Tiki Mods (though they are not as complete as I wish) and think it is a key feature to what I am looking for. May anybody kindly tell me how I can use tiki Mods to override/add some functionalities of/to tw?

Thanks for your kind attention!

Here is what I did for upgrading 1.8.5 to 1.9.1

I'll keep the source installation packages always. Then I use a diff tool for the template files.
I've commented all the changes I did and therefore it was quite "easy" to redo the changes to the new templates in 1.9.1.

Sometimes it's quite easy to just keep the old files. (It worked for me for most admin modules) but on some files, it's just better to redo changes (e.g. the language file changed a lot). On other files the 1.9.x changes are in fact docmented, like the CSS file.

But I completely agree, it would be much better if e.g. the template changes would have been better documented, but on the other side, that's what you have to live with when using OpenSource software....

Best regards,

Bernhard

Thank you Bernhard for your nice solution. Actually, I did the same thing to the code, meaning that I use a diff engine all the time to see what changes I've made, but it is a nightmare, too.
Blieve me, I have added more than 50 new features (I wish I had enough time to participate in the developing process), so many new lines have been added, hundreds of lines have been changed, and applying all of them, even using a diff engine, is so overwhelming.

Hopefully, Tiki Mods would be a nice solution. So, I am still waiting for more comments on using Tiki Mods.

Cheers,
