Page not found error code - for use verifying ownership for Google

I have recently tried to verify my ownership of a site with Google for submission of my site to the search engine. When I have done what they ask, Google has returned this error message:

We have detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a 200 status in the header.

Is this something that Tiki does, or is it a server setting?

A quick google turned up this link:
http://sitemaps.blogspot.com/2005/09/verifying-your-site-trouble-with-404.html. Seems like its your server rather than Tiki.

Are you using a custom 404 page in your htaccess? I had this same problem. To let Goolge verify your site:

  1. Temporarily rename your htaccess file.
  2. Reverify your site with Google.
  3. Retore your htaccess file.

I had to do the same thing, took about 5 minutes.
