Clearing the template_c folder

Okay, I finally got back into my TikiWiki and went to System Admin to clear the template_c folder but it won't let me. Can anyone think of a reason why not?

The problem is that your System Admin doesn't own the files. Use the Exterminator on Tiki's System Admin page (/tiki-admin_system.php). Dirty work done dirt cheap. — Sorry, was listening to old AC/DC. wink

First thing I tried once it was working. I get this error whenever I try emptying templates_c, thought the other two ate working.

Warning: rmdir(templates_c//enmenu43/ADMIN%3ARegistered/en/%%F9/F99): Permission denied in /home/rayhne/public_html/MIWiki/tiki-admin_system.php on line 45

These problems started literally between two seperate work times, with no changes to the program between them so I don't know why it suddenly starting giving me problems. :-( Hopefully they have worked themselves out.

And while I have eyed MediaWiki as a replacement, TikiWiki is far the better wiki, of all the wikis I have looked over (and I have looked over quite a few). But every now and then, something happens that drives me bonkers ...
grrrrr

Of course the problem now is that if I can't clean out templates_c regurlarl then I'm just going to continue to have this problem. :-(

Sorry for misreading. I thought it was the host's control panel you used first.

Yes, that's strange. Exterminator never showed this error for me. Maybe you should try asking on IRC - ConnectingToIrc.

What is Exterminator? That's not on my System admin.

Okay, I figured out the Exerminator bit but here's a question. What should the permissions be on templates_c? I have:

templates_c - 777
en - 751
en2 (renamed en folder) - 755
en??? (can't remember other folder name) - 755

777 is good for templates_c. I've never set the permissions on directories in templates_c. Checking them, I see they've been set at 751.

Then I hve no idea why I can't clear out the cache. If anyone has any idea please let me know. Thanks.

I'm begining to think I screwed up my admin somehow (well, I know how but ...) Can anyone tell me how I can reset the admin or create a new one?

My thoughts,

  • The templates_c folder can be a problem when you do an upgrade or other changes to your site.
  • The only time that I have seen this kind of problem is when my server has had major changes. As I recall (and that was a few years ago) the problem was that the server file onership changed. This was because of the linux upgrade and changes to the file system.

oh, glad to see that the en folder name change got you into your site!
