Menu error empty string

Canada

Hi,

I am adapting the kubrick theme and get the message: LayersMenu Error: setMenuStructureString: empty string.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using menu 43? See the docs for details on using the Php Layers menu.

Hi Rick and thanks for the reply,

Both templates (tiki and error) were configured thus: {phplayers id=43 type=horiz}

But, I wonder whether it is something as simple as no menu present (duh). I had assumed a standard menu would appear horizontally (Home, contact and wiki), but now I think that maybe I have to create a menu, right?

Another Newbie climbs the learning curve!

The only menu available by default in a fresh Tiki install has too many items for a horizontal menu, especially in a theme with side margins like Kubrick. This is why the menu id isn't used.

At least now when the menu doesn't exist yet there is just an error message. When the theme was first released, if the menu hadn't been created already, the error would stop every page from displaying. Nasty mad. Step by step, things are getting smoother. smile

Oh, this is good!

Now I just have to figure out how to create a menu. I didn't see a template for menus. Do I just create one, and if so, where could I go to have a look at the code for an example?

Still climbing ....

Yes, you can create one on the Admin Menus page (tiki-admin_menus.php). See the docs for details.

Ok, the menu now appears but only while logged in as admin. When I logout I get the same error message: "LayersMenu Error: setMenuStructureString: empty string."

Is there a different tpl for logged in/out ???

No, the template is the same. This is probably a local browser issue. Try clearing your browser caches and deleting cookies for the domain of your Tiki. You could check with another browser to verify that other anonymous users are getting the menu.

Yeah, I thought about that and tried Netscape, IE7 and Firefox. They all bring up the menu in admin, but I get the menu error when using the anonymous login.
