I must be dense - creating my wiki

I've looked through the documentation and find it isn't helping me. I know this question is so basic it has to be in there, but I can't find it.

My ISP installed tikiwiki. I am planning on creating a "wikipedia" type site for a singular subject area. I want anyone who comes to the site to see everything and users permitted to edit. When I open my site nhsenglish.org/deacon the page has a heading (banner?) called "Homepage". If I open "doc.tikiwiki.org" it doesn't have "hompage" headings.

Where/how do I start to develop the wiki I want?

I hope this is enough for you to go on.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having trouble with irc clients. I've tried Trillian and mIRC from the page you linked to. I think there must be newer versions of the software now because neither set of directions works with the software. In the case of Trillian, none of the options even seem the same.

Do you have a recommendation for one piece of software over the other?

regards

Mark

I like to use Opera's built-in IRC client. Opera is a very good web browser, too, so I think it's good to have it available. Once it's installed just enter the URL irc://irc.freenode.net/tikiwiki and you're in the right place. (About commands, be sure there are no spaces to the left of the "/".)

I too am having this problem - I'm sure its easy once you get the hang of it.

I tried renaming the page - but it juste created a NEW blank HomePage - so I'm sure there is a way round - As for me and any chance of IRC connection i'm on a side of the world who is asleep when everyone else is awake - Is there any documentation I could be pointed to - I've had a long hard look.

Forgive me I am new to Tikiwiki and I am bound to have more questions. (I know I will)

Thanks

"HomePage" itself can't be renamed. If you want a page with another name to be your home page, just specify that on the Admin General page, as I described in another thread today.

A few things to realize...

  1. The name HomePage is showing because you have the Show Page Title option selected on the Wiki Config page.
  2. You can make any page to be your "home" page. Just enter the page's name in the Wiki Home Page option on the Wiki Config page.

Please see the docs for full details.

There is a difference between the page's actual name and the heading that appears on the page. You can use an H1 (!) to display a "title" on your page. Or use the page's "description" field for this purpose.

-Rick
