How many items can a tracker handle? Google Search?

Two questions:

1. I just read on tikiwiki.org that a tracker wasn't able to handle thousands of items. I couldn't find a spec page though. I'm making a tracker that will be kind of an online dictionary. People can upload words in English and other languages. They can upload pictures next to them as well. There won't be any calculations needed. How big of a list could I have with a tracker like this? Is there something else I should use that would be better?

2. I was able to get Google Adsense to work by making a module that ran off of the original adsense module, but I also want a Google search. I know tiki has a search engine, but Google search can earn money. I made a module called adsense3 for google search, but I don't know what I should write in the data section.

thanks,
Perry

I discuss adding Google CSE (custom search engine) to Tiki in my Tiki BlogQuestion.

Rick,

I just found out that cse is different than adsense search. Now it's a easier to understand, lol. Okay, so I'm now using Google CSE, I added the js plugin, I modified the tiki div plugin, a created a wiki search page and pasted the search results modified google code in it.

I'm still missing one thing though, adding the modified search box code on my site. I tried adding a module and placing the code in the data section, but that did not work. I got a fatal error and had to go in the database to delete the module.

I would actually PREFER to have it in the header like you have on your site. I was going to edit the header, but I read you must know what you're doing or it'll cause problems. I have no idea where to put the code in the header anyway. Could you tell me where I should put the search box code?

thanks,
Perry

Both CSE and Adsense search are nearly identical in process (I use both on several of my Tikis). You simply need to to edit your tiki-top_bar.tpl template (in whichever theme/style you're using). Just drop the CSE code from google in there.

If you have a URL, I'll be more than happy to take a look.

I'm having trouble giving a reply lately. testing testing 1 2 3

hmmmm....I kept getting an error message with my reply. I'll try to type it differently. It's probably the code I included in my post.

hi Rick,

My website is http://fighterzone.orgQuestion

I'm using the troll party theme, but I modified the css a little.

I entered all my CSE info into the tiki modified Google search box code. I looked at the tiki-top_bar.tpl, but still had no clue where to enter the search box code. I just saw a paragraph of code with a few if statements in it. I made the results page here http://fighterzone.org/tiki-index.php?page=Google+Search+ResultsQuestion but I don't have the search box placed anywhere yet on my site.

The way you have your Google CSE in the upper righ side, same level as the logo, is exactly what I'm trying to get. Sorry for the trouble.

thanks,
Perry

The easiest way is probably to simply edit the tiki-top_bar.tpl template file.

  1. Edit the template and simply add the search box code from Google (you add it right at the very top). If you want it on the right side, you can enclose it in a floating div:
    Copy to clipboard
    ...code from google...
  2. On your Administration: Features page, turn on the top bar.
  3. Clear your Tiki & Browser cache.

Your results page is producing a malformed DIV, so your results are not going to appear correctly. You need to fix that, too.

Putting the modified search box code in the header gave me a smarty error with only the logo appearing. However I tried the original code for the google cse search box that puts the results on a google page and it worked. I'll just use this for now.

The only question I have now is getting the floating div to work. I entered it in just like you wrote, but it still stays on the left side. Is there something else I need to enter?

thanks,
Perry

Oops, my bad. It should be float:right; — a semicolon at the end — not a colon.
