Help - Site was hijacked

posts: 67 United States

Hello. I got an email from someone that my site was hijacked, and sure enough it would bounce me to something that said it was a computer scanner/cleaner type thing. Anyway, I emailed my hosting company and they said they fixed it. But the same person is still seeing this snippet of code and being redirected... it isn't a cache issue on his end, and I've cleared the site cache. You can see it at the bottom of code on this page or any wiki page (below closing html):

I've looked where to edit this out, and just can't find it. Is this in a template?

Hey, typeamom;

I have been to your site a few times in the past and must say, very nice. However, at this time I would say it is time to use Tikiwiki's handy "closed for maintenance" feature.

I say this because if other visitors get the effect that I did when using your link there are going to be some upset surfers! Whoever did this was clearly clever in method and of no good intent.

So sorry, typeamom; I followed the link you gave and I must say,

NO NO NO, do not click that link provided!

Even if you have some serious spybot protection! I do have good protection but am still fighting with the potential of a major computer crash.

I will post some ideas on how to try to fix it but I first must fix my computer. And more importantly warn others so that they are safe!

Please typeamom, close the site until this is fixed!

NO NO NO, do not click that link provided!

Ideas about how to fix this? I got 128 registries changes with a big bunch about redirects. Even FireFox is causing me heartaches now.

Do an action log search?
Check changes in your TPLs?
Is it from your Google add system?

Wow!!!! I am so sorry about that! I will scan my own computer. Scary stuff! Is there any way for me to edit my original message? I didn't see an icon for that. I will remove the link.

Anyway, I have closed the site for maintenance. If you have any tips on fixing the problem, PLEASE let me know!!! And thanks so much for the warning of how dangerous it is!!!!

I should have the malicious code cleaned up now. I know the pages like the one linked above are showing it gone now. My hosting provider helped me with some cleaning. There was definitely a snippet of code at the bottom (after html tags) of some pages. I also ran a scan on my computer and found some nasty stuff!
