Content-based Image retrieval

Hi everybody,
I'm new to TikiWiki but it really impressed me.. I saw that users can have an image library, so I thought that it could be great to have a content-based image retrieval system for searching images. Is it possible? What do you suggest?

Thank you
Carmelo

I'm not familiar with a "content-bases image retrieval system". Could you explain a little more how this works?

Currently, The Image Gallery feature allows you to create mulutiple galleries and sub-galleries. You can add descriptions to all images you upload and those descriptions are searchable, so that you can locate a particular image by it's description (or also by the name given to the image).

You could if you wanted to create a gallery, one for each user (and allow only each user to upload to his/her own gallery), but still allow other users to search and view images from all the galleries. Is this the type of thing you mean?

Thank you for your interesting reply.
What you told me about searching images in galleries is good, but it's not a content-based searching. I mean to search images "reading" their "content". In some cases it could be a really useful thing...

So image recognition/artificial intelligence? An example; you have a picture of the Pyramids at Giza and you search for "pyramids" and the program is able to recognize the picture you have uploaded has pyramids in it, so it returns that as a result?

I have never heard such a thing, but it's pretty cool.

Yes, another type of search is query by example: you click on an image and it searches for similar images...

This could always be achieved with clever/careful organization of your images using multiple galleries, categories and detailed descriptions. But I see your point that if it were automated, that removes the need for all the extra manual effort.

Maybe some of the other Tiki experts have some other ideas, but it sounds like, at best you'd have to find a third-party program to integrate with Tiki to achieve this.
