latex wiki plugin

The new latex plugin allows to include mathematical formulas of arbitrary complexity using the latex notation. It was inspired in the wikipedia latex plugin but it is much simpler.
One must enable the php feature to invoke external arguments and install tatex, dvips and ImageMagic. These are rather trivial in Linux.

The wikiplugin_tex.php is in the ))FreeDevices(( link.

Hey that plugin is cool !
we should put it in tikiwiki 1.9 sirius edition biggrin

I completely agree with you. It's very important for people related
with science that widely use mathematic expressions.

I had to make the paths to latex, dvips and convert absolute to let the plugin work.
Now it works like a charm!

This sounds a lot like the Formula Plugin that I worked on a while back.

Have you checked the security throughly.

The problem is that, for example, {FORMULA()}\input{/etc/passwd}{FORMULA} shows the contents of /etc/passwd.

The souce for my Forumla Plugin is in _mods.

Thanks George!
This plugin has the same security issue cry. And compared with your plugin this one seems rather crude...

frown I rather liked the idea of incorporating LaTeX-formula's in my Wiki.

So I tried latex2html, but that did not include any "protective" code.
It was still possible to use \input for example.

Maybe the script should scan for \input and \include and just replace them with nothing. That would remove the danger, and ordinary users, who just want to have formula's on theri pages will not be hampered by the lack of those functions.

The ))UniWakka(( wiki engine
http://uniwakka.sourceforge.net/HomePage
has a very comprehesive math support.
They generate MathML, not pictures like wikipedia.

As far as I understood they use a php script that can convert ASCII representation of math to MathML so no latex or other external progs are needed.

Here is their math demo page
http://www.istitutocolli.org/uniwakka/MathInsert
looks impressive.

Maybe this can be ported ti Tiki.

I'm currently trying to create a ))TikiWiki(( based student site at my university, math capabilities are highly wanted there.

what should we (tikiwiki users) do now?
i'm using 1.9.3.1 tikiwiki and I need formula?
is any easy way?

I have installed wikitex and plugin, and set any att. for folders, but I'm getting following error:

WikiTeX: latex reported a failure, namely:
lib/extensions/wikitex/wikitex.sh: line 59: latex: command not found

my server is Free BSD,please help

It's been a while since the last post on this topic, has there been an update? I need the ability to display equations in my wiki and latex is a well known standard for my users. I'm running tiki-wiki version 2.0, and have found both a EQUATION and FORMULA plugin, but neither works for me frown

using a very simply equation
Copy to clipboard
a^2+b^2=c^2

Equation returns: "Unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula. Error 6 "

Formula returns: "This feature is disabled: feature_sheet "

This is on a server running Xubuntu, with tetex (includes latex, dvips) installed.
A little help?

I have this same problem:

Equation returns: "Unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula. Error 6 "

I've made sure that my server meets the requirements as stated in http://doc.tikiwiki.org/PluginEquation

Anyone have any idea where I'm messing up?

Hi, All !

I wrote a new plugin for rendering mathematical expressions in LaTeX notation. You do not need any additional settings on your host. All you need is an Internet connection. I used the fact that the server latex.codecogs.com allows free use of its service to render the formulas in LaTeX notation. But, do not stress too much this server. They only allow 5000 queries per day.

wikiplugin_tex.zip

Demo page:
http://www.opensci.ru/tiki-index.php?page=Plugin+TeX+%28en%29

TODO:
1. make options for render this with Google LaTeX-engine.
2. automatic numbering of formulas.
3. anchor link to these formulas store in the database.
4. make parsing of the text surrounded by two signs $xxx$ as processing by the algorithm plug-TeX, without options.
5. make options in plugin for cache generated images in gallery, for ex. "latex", and replace link to. (And thereby remove the restriction 5000 requests from a third party. Google LaTeX-engine is without these restrictions but too truncated in LaTeX packages.)

...

Please, any bugs and comments,

Andrej.

ahrr... I forgot I made some changes to the css styles, and your page when you install the plugin will display differently. Use Firebug in Firefox for info about my styles.

Hi Andrej. and others:

Please, read how to Commit directly to svn, and comment this type of things in the tikiwiki-devel list:
http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=64258

Or how to add this as a Mod.

No idea myself how the previous plugins can be fixed.
You might ask help from a Consultant who knows how to fix it (not me)

Last, see the links to other resources related with Math in Tiki:

Cheers

Xavi
