I'm running 6.1 on a RHEL6.0 box, php 5.3.2. Whenever I try to do a search in the admin menu, I get

Utf8 compatible lower case filter needs mbstring extension to be enabled.

Googling suggests some changes to php.ini, so I've done that:

mbstring.language = Neutral
mbstring.internal_encoding = UTF-8

but no luck. Could someone point me in the right direction?
