How to apply a Profile

Hello,

I'm wondering how to 'apply a profile'?

I followed the instructions found on the profile page:

http://profiles.tiki.org/Welcome+to+Tiki+Profiles

Where it reads:

Profiles can also be applied at any time after Tiki is installed by following these steps:
1. Log into Tiki as an administrator
2. Open the Administration page (click the "Admin Home" link in the menu)
3. Click on the Profiles link
4. Show profiles available in the registered repositories by clicking List. You can filter the list of profiles by name, type and repository if you like.
5. Click on the name of the profile you want to apply. Details about that profile will be obtained from the repository and displayed for your review.
6. Click the Apply Now button

But I don't see an 'Apply Now Button'. I did see a 'save' button at the bottom of the page, which I clicked..but I don't think that it applied the profile... I feel like I am the demografic that profiles were made for, yet, so far, I havn't been able to get it to work... can anyone help me?

Also... the box to enter text in for this 'forum post' is exactly 11 characters wide, single spaced...it seems rather cramped... is that intended?or just a side effect of using Chrome as my browser?

I did notice that just below the profile name, and before the listing of the YAML information - the following line was hiding:

An error occured during the profile validation. This profile cannot be installed. Message: No handler found for object type forum in profiles.tikiwiki.org:Collaborative_Community_7x

Perhaps that's why there was no 'apply now' button...

I'll see if perhaps I can get another profile to work...

Yes, it looks like there is an Install type button for other Profiles, however the main ones that I am interested in are the Collaborative Community Profiles (5 6 and version 7 all gave the same error), as that is EXACTLY what I'm looking at putting together...

Mainly, I'd like to have final approval over members that sign up before they can edit any pages on the Wiki...

Perhaps some one has a suggestion of another profile that might fit the bill? perhaps a small business organization...

Booger,

it looks like this one (My Second choice) has Errors too:

Small_Organization_Web_Presence_7x http://profiles.tikiwiki.org beta, Featured profiles, 7.x
An error occured during the profile validation. This profile cannot be installed. Message: No handler found for object type topic in profiles.tikiwiki.org:Small_Organization_Web_Presence_7x

I feel as If I have been duped heh - I watched that video where they introduced 'Profiles' and got pretty Exited by how smooth it looked like it was going to work...

However, I can't seem to find any that would fit what I'm trying to do with the Wiki that work...

this one seems to be broken as well:

Company_Intranet_7x http://profiles.tikiwiki.org alpha, Featured profiles, 7.x
An error occured during the profile validation. This profile cannot be installed. Message: No handler found for object type rss in profiles.tikiwiki.org:Company_Intranet

The 'closest' one that I see that might work is set up to teach a college course with.. but it's minimalist in it's functionality. (not many features are turned on...)

Sigh, well at least after reading so many of the options in the profiles that I was interested in, I have a good Idea as to how I'd like mine configured...

I suppose it's time to wade into doing it manually.

Maybe I'm just missing something, but this 'feature' seems to have been a dud or something...

Am I wrong? Is there something that I'm missing? perhaps an 'updated list' of Profiles that work or something perhaps?

is my version old? (I thought I checked for updates...) it's version: 3.0... maybe the update isn't as 'automatic' as I thought it was... I'll see if there is a newer version... i think I read something about tiki 7?

nope, I did an upgrade to 3.0 Beta1 and still had the same error.

Your version is very old, and it's unsupported.

You should get the latest 3.x, latest 6.x or you can be bold and try the new 7.0!

Yup, That was it, I upgraded to 7.0 and the profile worked like a charm.

I'm going to admit it... I actually did a 'quick install' of 'media Wiki' cause my web host makes it real easy to use... but after just a few minutes in Media Wiki poking around, I high tailed it back to Tiki for my Wiki fix.

thanks for making this such a robust, piece of software, that is still fairly simple to pick up on!

Kudo's to the team!

I get the same exact errors with 6.3 using the 6.x profiles. Does this mean I need to go to 7? I'm so amazed at how the video zWolf spoke about came across and then so disappointed that I get nothing just like he experienced ...

Hello,

I'm wondering how to 'apply a Company_Intranet_8x Profile'?

I followed the instructions found on the profile page:

http://profiles.tiki.org/Welcome+to+Tiki+Profiles

But I am having this problem:

An error occured during the profile validation. This profile cannot be applied. Message: Invalid URI supplied

This is happening when I installed tiki-wiki and clicked on Company profile. Does any body have an idea what this error could be?

Again,

When I tried to create Company_Intranet_4x Profile it gave me following errors.

Profile issues:
Syntax error:
Needs a 'type' and 'data' field,Syntax error:
Needs a 'type' and 'data' field,Syntax error:
Needs a 'type' and 'data' field,Syntax error:

Can anyone look into these errors and reply me..??
Thanks In advance.. :-)

I think the issue may have been the profile itself. It was referencing both the 8.x version and also the original version of the profile that would've been used for 3.x installations.

I updated some of the tracker item handlers to only reference the current profile and it seems to be working ok for me now.

If you're still having problems, please let me know, and I'll take another look at it.

Also, worst case, you can also copy the code and paste the code. If you go to the profile admin page and then click on the advanced tab, you'll see a box at the bottom of the page you'll see a profile tester page. When you run the code from here it will install the code you've pasted.
