Features / Usability

namespaces

Hi again (Damian and all the rest 😉)

I recently posted a few mails asking questions about setting up separate areas for different groups/users, where I concentrated on question of rights to do certain action on a certain portion of the tikiwiki.

Only later I realised that the worse problem lies much further down - in namespace limitations.❗
Imagine a situation where each user is allowed to generate a private wiki area, and put whatever he/she wants in there. Sooner or later, 1000 people would try to set up ))MyWife,MyHome,MyHobbies, and so on... The problem is - Although all of them may have exactly the same idea about who theMyWifeshould be, they would still need differentMyWife(( pages... 😀

Even if you don't plan to let all the users have their own wiki subspaces, it is still wise to have a separate namespace for each bigger thema you plan to adress using tikiwiki. In case you don't see why this would be so, please take a look at twiki based sites, and the concept of "twiki webs".

This problem, and possible solutions has already been described on several wiki pages ( TikiNames_gmuslera, TIkiNamesRevisited_gmuslera, NonStrictHierarchicalNameSpaces ), but has anything been done on "namespaces" front so far?

Hey Deno!

AFAIK nothing is in place at the moment. 1.8 had a structure modification to wiki pages. so they link on id # instead of a name. taking 1.8 or 1.9 as a base should nt be too difficult now.

Damian

Its almost a little mini structure for each user 😊
