How to attach a pre-existing gallery file to a tracker file field?

I've got a tracker that has a field of type "File", so I can upload a file and attach it to the tracker. There is also apparently an "Attachment" type which does a similar thing - the differences are not clear to me, except maybe the latter only allows a single file?

Anyway, they both seem to require that the file is uploaded at the time the form is being filled out. Often users will want to go ahead and upload the files as they are working on them, before it is time to fill out the form. However, there doesn't seem to be any way in the file field to specify that the file is not on the user's computer, but is already in the file gallery!

When I edit the field, I see there is an option "Browse Gallery ID" which from the description seems like it might do what I want. I have elFinder enabled, and set this field to the same as the value for "Gallery ID" but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Michael

Confusing isn't it - the Attachment field (type=A) is an old one, which along with the Image one, have been finally deprecated in Tiki 14 (should have been done long ago) and should no longer be used.

It sounds like the one you're using the best one - actually called "Files" (type=FG) which allows you to attach files from file galleries to tracker items.

You need to enable an extra preference (sadly) called fgal_tracker_existing_search  which can be found on the filegals admin panel (labelled "Allow searching for existing files in the tracker files field")

Thanks, that worked great!
