Users showing up in Geolocation Map

Good week folks, I have recently displayed a map on my wiki showing the Geolocated wiki pages with:

Copy to clipboard
!!!# Map {map controls="controls,search_location,scale,navigation,levels,layers,streetview"} !!!# List of geolocated pages {LIST()} {filter type="wiki page"} {filter content="y" field=geo_located} {LIST}

But for some reason users with geolocation enabled on their profile are showing up in the map as well. If you see this page at http://thepatriotwoodwiki.org/Geolocated+Wiki+Pages and if you see the state of California at the west coast of the United States, there is a read pinpoint under another, the first pin point is "Sam Maloof", the one under is "admin" (me). I am showing up in the map for wiki pages. Any suggestions on getting rid of users from this map? Thank you so much guys.

I can verify this.

Here's a page I did for my wife's hair salon with a map.
http://jabi.com/Simply+Spoiled
Using this map code

Copy to clipboard
{map controls="controls,search_location,scale,navigation"}

NOTE: It shows the shop and also me (WizarDave)
But it does not show Lake Paho west of town or the water plant I work at or any of the surrounding towns.

On this page, I still show up, but not the towns, water plant or Simply Spoiled.

Everything shows up on this next map.

  • If you zoom in on Missouri, (Center of the US) then north central Missouri, you will see several flags. (cities, counties, my water plant, me, etc.)

Using the same exact same code as above.

  • But with an the addition of a List if that might make a difference...
    • I did some testing on other pages and it doesn't seem to affect them.

I'm not understanding the differences...

  • Aha, over lunch, I figured out a big difference.
    • The Geolocated+Wiki+Pages is NOT geolocated.
      • Maybe that could be a starting place to start looking?

It would be nice for the end user to be able to turn on or off additional flags.

  • Users
  • Tracker Items like businesses
  • In my instance, wiki pages for towns and counties which are geolocated...
  • Off the top of my head, I think this would be a feature you could create using Trackers.
    • Will have to dig into the docs some more...

So, is the original question John brought up (why do users showup on the map?) a feature or a bug?

Hey Dave, sorry for being so late on this. Thanks so much for testing this even further! You generated a ton of great information on this subject.
I am wondering now, is there a way to turn off "User" location in Admin/Control Panel?
If I could turn it off that would be fine too.
But, that being said, there must be a way to not include users in the geolocated map, and to include only wiki pages, and articles if one wants too?
Thanks a million Dave!

On a side note Dave, you have a neat site, great job, really cool and full of great ideas for the developer.
I have a question, how did you get your social share icons to float out at the top left of your site, I have been looking and looking and cannot find a way to do that. Thanks for any help!

Under admin panel >> Look & Feel >> Customization tab >> Custom javascript text box.

Add your choice of code from
http://sharebutton.net/
without the script wrapping tags

By the way Dave, I love Hillsdale College! Nice page you have on your site about our constitution.

I enjoyed their free Constitution course.
Thanks, it was originally posted around 1995ish...

Dave, your social button tip worked perfectly at http://thepatriotwoodwiki.org/HomePage

Thanks so much! I was curious, would you like to post this tip in our forum here under a different title so folks can take advantage of this cool feature?
If you are feeling a tad lazy or slow gettin to it, I'd be happy to post the tip myself if you'd like.

Our senior high-school graduate daughter was thinking about Hillsdale, but she got a scholarship for Cal Baptist near where we live. But I have heard Hillsdale College on my talk radio commute home from work for years, the dean of the college comes on and discusses current affairs as related to the constitution and other items of interest. I love that college and all it stands for.

Thanks again Dave!
