Could be definitely useful for other languages, maybe even French?

I already answered in matrix. This is normally the job of the engine, and manticure (for sure) and elastic probably supports it.

Licensing issues could be handled if it was integrated using Tiki Packages feature?

Manticore has pluggable morphological stemming. I sent detailed history on how croatian support in handled.

The question about PO files is how it could be integrated with Smarty tpls, js, vue files?

Does anyone know why tiki initially tried to roll it's own translation system instead of leveraging gettext (one of the few technologies that way predate tiki)

Yes, it could since there is stemmer for French avaialble

Luis Fagundes or the other original Tiki authors would know. It was maybe just easiest to start with a PHP array and it stayd

Manticore has pluggable morphological stemming. I sent detailed history on how croatian support in handled.

There is no stemmer written for the format used by Manticore, while TNTSearch, at least, has something. Even ElasticSearch does not have anything for Croatian.

As I said, the serbian morphology in manticore is based on the same algorithm as the croatian stemmer in your TNTSearch

It was quite good alternative but almost nobody used it and we needed an automation tool which would hook to Transifex API and fetch the translation (Import/export) of the language and commit that to Tiki repo. Maybe today it would be easier to code with all the AI capabilities.

Still, why forcing one to use Manticore instead of having (some) support with Tiki's built-in (unified9 search)?

00:27:03
What are we on now? @Franck Martin - your mic is very noisy

be
benoit.gregoire

gour: Because stemming is normally part of the search implementation, not the abstraction.

And it's a lot of performance and maintenance cost just to avoid one or two line changes in a config files.

Too soon; I agree the branching should not happen before we are absolutely sure there are no release blockers.

be

Or at least that any remaining blockers are understood
