RSS newsfeeds from one's site

Hi,
I was trying out how to use the newsfeed, rss that is defined for blogs and other areas so specified. So, I clicked on RSS for the blog I have. As far as I could tell the line that denoted the rss url ended in php which isn't typical but there seemed to be no other item in the xml display that could refer to that specific feed. So, I created an rss module which had id=1. Then in my wiki, just to see if I got it right, I put in a bit of text and hit the RSS button to insert the feed by id#. This is what I got:
Let's try a newsfeed using my blog here as an example.

N/A

As one can see at:
http://wordsalad.net/writersHome/tiki-index.php
Now, I'm pretty sure I once did this and it worked. Since then I haven't been able to repeat that.
Please assist,
Bruceredface

I'm confused a bit. Are you referring to a post of mine that I put up a long time ago - well it seemed long ago? What is TG?
Anyway, thanks for the help,
Bruce

Hi; sorry Bruce at 3 in the morning I get a bit goofy.

No the post was by yoni about a dating site idea. Something I have an interest in. You replied to that and I checked out your nationwidesingles.us site. Please check the link so I do not have to repeat it here, I would appreciate your feedback.

I tried your link that you have in this post but it did not work at first. It just kept churning away, finnally it showed and gave this error.
Xml error: no element found-1
Xml error: no element found-1

But I notice in your post that you have
N/A
this may be a typo in your post, but if this is what you are using then my thought would be that you have to loose the space between the = and the 1 You seem to have a pretty good understanding of TW so it is likly some very simple thing like that!

lets us know if that was it!

Oh sorry it would be blasphemous for me to utter the word tikiG*D

I just went in there and saw this that you mentioned
I tried your link that you have in this post but it did not work at first. It just kept churning away, finnally it showed and gave this error.
Xml error: no element found-1
Xml error: no element found-1
So, I did a refresh and the error is up top but I'm in. Why is this happening? What does it mean? What can I do? Please someone explain. questionfrown

Hi, I still am not sure what the rss feed is or rather which part of the XML listing specifies the rss link. So, I still have the troubling error when one comes to my site. If one types in http://wordsalad.net/writersHome/ one sees up top this error message
Xml error: no element found-1
Xml error: syntax error-1
I'm not sure if the site is still taking forever to load. Though if someone could tell me I'd be glad to hear that. I will have to bring this to the attention of the web tech support team to find out if it is a server issue. Note: I do the reselling of web site hence I am not at the physical location where the hosting company is located. These error messages indicate something is not right. This being 3rd party software my hosting service may not have the answers and quite likely will not. Since this is a fairly new site I can remove and reinstall. This is very undesireable because what if the site was not new.

The removal of the space in the
N/A
to
N/A
did not fix the problem. The blog that is referenced by that link on the site does have entries. It is my belief or understanding that the first or latest x entries would be displayed.

So, the question that I have are one how do I fix that XML error from displaying? Where does the problem lie or where might it exist? What could cause it to occur suddenly between the last visit to the site nad today? Can it be fixed as it does suggest something is not right?
Lastly, how do I correctly identify the rdf or rss feeds associated with content on my site(s), my TW sites, and use that content?
Thanks in advance,
Bruce

I did answer that question in the different posting that referred to the original thread. I think I got the site to no longer display that disturbing error that it was displaying and it seems to load right away.
Unfortunately, the syndication of my site is still a mystery to me. Doesn't a newsfeed have a link that ends in xml, rss, or rdf? I clicked on RSS in my blog and got the XML file as I stated. So, for the rss link, I used the web url that ended in php, not because that was what I thought that was right but I couldn't figure out what else to use. I can now assume that either the rss newsfeed for my blog in the same TW site cannot be referred to by the rss link, or assume I specified the link wrong and try to figure out how to do it right.
So, far I've gone with the latter idea and tried to figure out how to correctly identify which link is the specification for the rss for the web log. I pulled out my manual and was looking for RSS in the table of contents and found it way into the document. It merely repeats what I must have read already. I must have read that section because I already knew one could syndicate various aspects of the site from the Features admin option. I wish it then would say how to then take a content from that blog or forum or etc, and figure out what is the specification for the rss feed. How does one identiify that correctly?
I didn't think it would be this complicated but I just don't see what one should do to figure out this information. Please help, I've been holding back a great idea because I can't get this figured out.
Thanks,
Bruce

Ok, I've got a promise here that I would be helped to determine how to find out the RSS info. on my site. In particular, I have this blog here. http://www.wordsalad.net/writersHome/tiki-view_blog.php?blogId=4
And there is a button for RSS, so I thought that what I would see by clicking on that would tell me what the RSS feed information is that I would need either for my TW site or elsewhere. Unfortunately, from what I see by clicking on RSS is very hard to decipher in terms of what exactly is the link that I want. As a matter of fact, one recent try at specifying the RSS link made my TW become very upset. I was getting XML parse errors and could only get into the site by using the tiki-admin.php, not tiki-index.php which wasn't working. I have to see if I fixed that problem. As I was writing this I discovered that to get to the home page and have that page show up I had to delete the RSS modules pertaining to the blogs. I still get this error on the home page:
Xml error: no element found-1
Xml error: no element found-1
It seemed like it had gone away but now it is showing up again.
I remain baffled as to what the RSS feed url is for my blog. I'll need that for publishing in TW and elsewhere, which I said a moment ago. I have a promise that if I answered the above I would get an answer to my question. So, please...
It's frustrating for me. exclaimquestion

So, far, I haven't been able to discern much to my utter disappointment what the newsfeeds on a site are... how they are specified. I go to my blog and select RSS and see an XML file. The various possibilities for the rss for that blog do not work at all, on this site or other TW sites. So, what have I accomplished. I use Fantastico on my servers and was able to install a copy of pMachine and enter a blog that happens to also be on my tikiwiki site. So, I re-entered the postings for the pMachine web log. The site for that btw, is www.pmachine.com
Ok, so I have my blog there and I try to import it. I have to setup some template that is supposed to be used if one were pulling in content from elsewhere. So, I play with that template calling it main. Then I found in a help file somewhere, that I need to enter this line into the main template

That show_rss_page command is only recognized in that blog system. Now, I can inlcude in my TW the blog module where the link is to http://wsweblog.no-ip.info/index.xml

With that I can add the statement

and it displays what is at: http://wsweblog.no-ip.info/pm/ - The forward slash /pm/ gets you into the blog for posting. My effort is not to promote something else but to try to figure out how one can syndicate and use the syndication of my TW site. Everything I have read seems to leave out some key ingredient.... some necessary information to make this work. Similar to other blogs out there that are just blogs. They would claim to be available for syndication but on at least two of them, I'd find the message, "this appears to lack any style information." All efforts to remedy that and give it what it wants failed miserably.
I am pretty sure I did at one time have a blog on my TW site or sites. Oh, the site whre I have included the above blog from elsewhere is at: http://wordsalad.net/writersHome/
Whereas the blog that I pulled into TW is nice from the standpoint of knowing that I could actually get RSS content on my site, it's just a blog. I really idea want to exclaim be able to have syndicated all the features I checked of in my administration of RSS where I get to it from Admin click here and then click on RSS. I selected a number of areas to be able to syndicate various areas of my site.
I want to create online versions of Street Newspapers using TW features and syndicate them. There is the North American Street Newspaper Association http://nasna.org that does give more information on what a street newspaper is. Please help someone. exclaimredfacefrown

Bruce

I'm not sure what I added to get the display of newsfeeds in my posting to the forum. I would however love to see that work on my site at: http://wordsalad.net/writersHome/
I've read about how various other people create RSS, how TW supports that, how to do that in TW, but again, it is missing some information to work. I know I need a listing that ends in xml or rdf or rss. That seems to be the key ingredient in what does work. I did answer your post and am now hoping to get some assistance or explanations.
Thanks,
Bruce
