Double-Byte File Names Garbled in IE

Hello,

I have setup a Tikiwiki site version 1.8.4 in Japanese and if a file is uploaded with Japanese in the name and then downloaded using IE the name becomes garbled. However, if I try to download the same file using Firefox, the name remains as it should.

I am guessing that this perhaps has something to do with IE not supporting UTF-8 in the file name? or is it something else? How exactly are the file names stored?

Is there some way to work around this, as much as I would love to have everyone using Firefox, I cannot force all the visitors to do so.

Any ideas or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Depends if your files are stored in the database or the filesystem.

You might have to set to the file system.

I don't know if Damian's sugggestion changes something but if not,
I suggest you to open a bug on sourceforge. Otherwise it will be lost in the forum. I think the filename is not properly encoded...

Currently all files are stored in a folder on the system. So unfortunately, the suggestion to change to storing them on the filesystem does not change anything.

I could try to change it to storing files in the database, but realistically, this is not an option as some of the files are huge and it would really slow things down. I guess it might be worth trying just to see if it makes a difference.

In either case, I will open a bug on sourceforge.
