Google Adsense Module Posted by Yodaya 07 Jun 2005 08:39 UTC Hi folks, I just tried to create a new module to display google adsense advertising. But this module is not working.... Probably because it contains javascript. Has anybody created a module for adsense in tikiwiki 1.8.5 ? How do I do it? Cheers Yodaya
Posted by Maarten 16 Jul 2005 16:13 UTC That is what you can do and works well... Here is the code I used for my module: I placed the googleads.html file in the root directory of the wiki. Maarten
Posted by Damian Parker 16 Jul 2005 21:59 UTC Yoni has commited a new adsense module to the latest branch-1-9 code, you should be able to get it within the next 24 hours from the de.tikiwiki.org tarballs. if you really must use 1.8.x you need to copy the modules/adsense and templates/modules/adsense files from it to your 1.8 installation. Posted by gregbd 10 Aug 2005 19:02 UTC Hey Damian: I am using version 1.8.X and downloaded the adsense module from de.tikiwiki.org then copied the just the files (mod-adsense.php and mod-adsense.tpl) and I get this error on my index.php page. 'You forgot your Google ad_client number !' Now how do I now configure the ads to appear? Is there another file? > Yoni has commited a new adsense module to the latest branch-1-9 code, you should be able to get it within the next 24 hours from the de.tikiwiki.org tarballs. > > if you really must use 1.8.x you need to copy the modules/adsense and templates/modules/adsense files from it to your 1.8 installation. > > Enjoy > > Damian > http://free.tikihost.net - FREE TikiWiki hosting!

Posted by Karen Taylor 12 Aug 2005 01:52 UTC Hi, guys, I'm really interested in an answer I can understand. I opened the mod-adsense.php in via File Manager in the cpanel. I substituted my Google AdSense client ID numbers for the x's that were there. I saved. I still get 'You forgot your Google ad_client number !' I read the notes in the file, but the code itself means nothing to me. It makes reference to "468*60" whereas, I'd like to use it in a right-hand column and would prefer 120x600. I have the Google script that I would otherwise put on an HTML page. How do we know the shape/size of something a module is going to create? I'm stuck and hoping that Yodaya will report the procedure to success. Thanks, Karen
Posted by gregbd 12 Aug 2005 04:03 UTC Karen: I figured out how to make it work without using the module. Actually, the way I did it is in line with Google's TOS whereas the adsense module breals their TOS. Let me try to explain: 1) I created a web page with the specific Google script and that is all. I named it something like google-160X600.html 2) I created a new module where I inserted an iframe which he iframe src tag cvalls the html file. I cannot figure out how to insert the code here. So, send me an email and I will send you the code. 😕 > Hi, guys, > > I'm really interested in an answer I can understand. > I opened the mod-adsense.php in via File Manager in the cpanel. > I substituted my Google AdSense client ID numbers for the x's that were there. > I saved. > I still get 'You forgot your Google ad_client number !' > I read the notes in the file, but the code itself means nothing to me. > It makes reference to "468*60" whereas, I'd like to use it in a right-hand column and would prefer 120x600. Posted by Gary Cunningham-Lee 08 Jun 2005 02:40 UTC You could make an ordinary HTML page that contains the Adsense code, etc., and then make a module that contains an iframe that loads the HTML page. I don't have any experience with Adsense but I did do a Weather Magnet module this way, which worked great. -- Gary
Posted by gregbd 11 Aug 2005 19:06 UTC That is a great tip, I spent days trying to figure the other way using the module. Thanks again! > You could make an ordinary HTML page that contains the Adsense code, etc., and then make a module that contains an iframe that loads the HTML page. I do not know much about i-frame and how to use it in tikiwiki. Would you be able to tell me the steps you did to get around this problem of not getting adsense to work. Cheers.
Posted by John Bartram 24 Dec 2005 18:51 UTC The iframe solution is easy, but fails to use adsense properly. This is because adsense cannot target content to an iframe. This is confirmed to me by Google. Therefore to use adsense properly, we need a module that functions. The one offered on this site produces a fatal error in my tests (1.9.2). I cannot find the version by the same author said to be on the German site. If the js plugin were to be available and work, then that maybe would allow the adsense code to work. We really do need a solution for implementing adsense properly.
Posted by marquez 20 Jan 2006 09:27 UTC I managed to create a module with google adsense however, everytime the user logs out, tikiwiki shows a blank page. Users have to press their back button for TikiWiki to work as normal again. Then I tried the Iframe method however, the ads coming up are not relevant to the page content. I am just stunned that, after all this time, none of us here, knows how to properly get adsense going for such a major project like TikiWiki. If I'd only known this was a problem...
Posted by fryguy 09 Nov 2006 05:50 UTC ❓ How do you setup the adsense module? I have searched this forum and entered the client number and ad type, as others have said into the parameters field. All i can get is the code showing in place of where the module is suppose to be.

I'm not sure if that adsense module is working right yet. See http://zukakakina.com/GoogleAdSense2 for an alternative. -- Gary

The content of the files for the module, as displayed on the page, use parentheses in place of angle brackets in a few places, because angle brackets would cause the lines to be interpreted as a script and thus stripped from the wiki page. As is stated on the page, there are no parentheses in the files themselves; angle brackets should be used where there are parentheses shown. To save the trouble of copying and pasting the lines for the files, and changing parentheses to angle brackets, the files are also available as attachments to the page (http://zukakakina.com/GoogleAdSense2). Sorry, permission for anonymous visitors to download wikipage-attached files wasn't set before. Now it is. -- Gary
