    • How to move Tikiwiki?

    Posted by marvo

I've looked but all I can find to help me with this is a year old and incomplete on this site.

We need to move to another server to escape the minimal php.ini memory limit on our old server.

So, how do we do this. I can export in phpmyadmin but where is the import? If I create a new database, what then? How do I get my exported database from my old wiki into the new wiki?

...or am I going about this all wrong?

    Cheers for help in advance

    Hi,

    See MoveTikiToAnotherServer.

Generally from experience phpMyAdmin screws up badly on exporting and re-importing large databases on those servers who's memory limit is set to 8Mb in the first place. 😢

I know this for a fact as Ive done many already for tikihost.net clients.

To re-upload your database you must click on SQL on phpMyAdmin or even better use SSH access and the mysql command. If the new server is configured with a PHP execution time of 30 seconds then the upload process will fail.

There are some tricks you can do, but I dont have time tonight to document them. They mainly involve modifing the tiki-install.php to use the db dump generated from mysqldump command, or a successfull phpMyAdmin export.

Damain... thanks for helping out. I've a feeling this is going to be a really laborious process.

Firstly, you said in your other post to run this I guess in my PHPMyAdmin
    mysqldump -u tikiuser -p tiki-db > dump.sql

Consider me a thicko... tikiuser should be changed to something? If so what? The PHPMyAdmin username? should I be changing tiki-db to the tiki database name too?

You said in your post it was easy... well, it may be to you, but it isn't to me. Sorry!

    Cheers

No you do that at a shell prompt usually obtained through a SSH client. In phpMyAdmin select the database and click the export tab. the phpMyAdmin documentation is very good at explaining the various options available on that page.

    > Consider me a thicko.. tikiuser should be changed to something? If so what? The PHPMyAdmin username?

    yes

    > shold I be changing tii-db to the tiki database name too?

    yes

Just read the phpMyAdmin documentation 😉

As it happened it did turn out to be simple. I didn't need to run "command lines at shell prompts through an SSH client" though - whatever that means 😛 It was as simple as exporting the database and importing the SQL file on the new site through PHPMyAdmin.

Feel a lot better now it's done. Thanks for the help Damian.... and the glimpse into the dark halls of MySQL 😉

    Cheers

Did you follow the Move Tiki to a New ServerQuestion instructions?

    Essentially you:

    1. Backup your current MySQL Database
    2. Backup your folder (i.e., the directory in which you installed Tiki on the "old" server).
    3. Restore the database on your new server.
    4. Restore your folder on the new server.
    5. Clear all the Tiki caches.
    6. Run the Tiki installer on the new server and select "upgrade."

Thanks Rick! I was well into all this install when I figured the new site needed TikiWiki uploaded so the install file could be accessed. We had difficulty with permissions and the new database. It is running now! Ohh it feels so good! Trouble is somewhere in the nightmare process I got passwords mixed up. I cannot login into my own wiki.  I've tried every password I had recorded and nothing works. Where (in which file) can I look for the admin login for the wiki?

    Hi,

    if your password is lost:

    https://doc.tiki.org/Lost+admin+passwordQuestion

example to change in the database -> phpMyAdmin -> field for SQL code:

    Admin

    Copy to clipboard
    UPDATE `users_users` SET `password`='admin', `hash`= md5('admin') WHERE `login`='admin';

    Any other user:

    Copy to clipboard
    UPDATE `users_users` SET `password`='yourpassword', `hash`= md5('yourpassword') WHERE `login`='yourusername';

Thank you for that. I'll keep note of it. Turns out the problem may not be the password. TW says it needs cookies allowed. Cookies are allowed on two different computers each with two different browsers and we still get the turn cookies on message. So now no one can logon until we figure this out. Got any ideas?
