Auto-Fill Tracker Fields

I'm creating a tracker to keep track of various tasks that have been asigned to members in my group. The tracker is going to be imbedded into a wiki-page for reference and thought that it would also be usefull to imbed a form into the same page.

However, I was wondering whether in tikiwiki v2.2:

  1. if it's possible to have it so that when a user submits the form, tracker fields are automatically filled with:
    1. how the task was asigned?
      • I was thinking of using a drop-down box with Form, Forum, E-mail as choices, where Form is the default value that will automatically be chosen
    2. the username of the person submitting the form?
  2. if it's possible to have it so that the auto-filled fields are hidden in the form?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to do something similar. What I am seeing in tikiwiki 2.2 is that unless the field is displayed in the form, the default value does not appear in the list view or the edit view for the tracker item. I am also trying to build in some traceability into the system - but I cannot get the system to set the userid that last modified the item.

Hi both RickD and mparlikar:

Yes, you can do that with tiki 2.x (unless a new bug is up there somewhere)

Have you read the documentation about trackers?:
http://doc.tikiwiki.org/TrackersQuestion

If needed, please, do so, and report which page of the documentation needs to be updated to explain what you intend to do and don't know how to.

Thanks in advanced

Xavi

Hi Xavi,
Are you sure this can be done with fields not showing in the tracker plugin?
The "values" option to pre-fill the fields can - in my opinion - only be used if the field is present in the plugin (= visible).

If not, please explain!

Suzanne

Ah, ok, then sorry, I guess that I misunderstood part of the question (I wonder if you all three are asking the same).

I have never used the pre-fill option, but certainly you don't need it for most usages to perform the task requested by the previous to users in this thread (if I understood correctly, of course)

You can use the tracker plugin to send data from a form displayed in a wiki page to fill the corresponding fields in a tracker. And you can choos whcich filed sto be shown in the form at the wiki page (tracker plugin), which fields you want to show in the tracker itself (or through plugins in wiki pages), and to whom show some fields, etc.

miyako, besides asking, can you help answering the other users also, please?
(otherwise this is not sustainable). I hope you understand...

Hello Xavi,

My impression is that we are all asking the same question: is it possible to pre-fill a tracker field without that field being visible / displayed in the form (i.e. imbedded in the tracker plugin)?

I've looked everywhere in the documentation and can't find anyway of doing this.

Thanks for the responses!

Hi RickD,

Then sorry for my missinterpretation. Therefore, my answer is: "sorry, no idea", I haven't tried myself.

I'd suggest to ask on irc (someone with more knowledge on the cutting edge version of trackers will know for sure the answer, which might very well be: "not yet, feel free to code it yourself or pay somebody to do it for you")

Good luck

Hello,

Thanks for the responses! I am trying to use the tracker for an approval system - this means that I have to set a default value when a new approval is requested. I also need to restrict the permission to "approve" and also display a timestamp and login for the person doing the approval.

What I am seeing now is that the username is not appearing (because the field does not appear at all with restricted permissions) - the approval status is not being set to the default value either - because it is read-only for the submitter.

I hope that makes sense - the tracker is very good - but it does not provide a good audit log for the fields or status changes (please correct me if I am wrong)

Thanks!

Medha

Medha, thanks for your message.
I would say that what you want to do, you can do it (once properly configured the tracker fields) if you use the tracker interface itself for submitting new items, listing them in list mode, single item mode, etc.
They do work for me (using 2.x) for this type of task as what you say you want to do. It just takes some time of learning how to configure fields, permissions, etc.

However, I have no experience with the prefill option through wiki pages with tracker plugins. I would say, try to do it first with trackers themselves (without wiki pages nor plugins), and once it works for you, then look for a coder to code whatever is missing to do the same from wiki pages + tracker plugins.
