Pre-Install Error - help please

Hi,

I'm interested in trying out TikiWiki 5.1. I uploaded and extracted the zip, moved the files to my root folder on a subdomain. All the files appear to be their but I get this 406 error message.

Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /tiki-install.php could not be found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

tiki-install.php is definitely there, so I'd appreciate some advice.

I also have the option to install v4.3 using Fantastico, but I'd rather not as that will probably have problems of it's own - most worried about future upgrades. Unless anyone thinks that's a reasonable way to go for ease.

Sorry if this is a common question/error but I had a little trouble searching an answer on this site.

Cheers. My host sorted that, but something else has happened.

It's asking me to chmod a dozen folders to 777 before I can install, which I'm worried is a security risk? Most of the permissions are currently set with folders to 755 and files to 644. Is this a common occurrence? And is there a definitive list of permissions that I need to change so I don't run into more trouble in future?

Hi. The docs do list the files that need chmodding. I've gone ahead and done it, completed the install with no problems. I was more after an understanding of why some files may/may not need 777 permissions as I'm generally led to believe it's a bad thing to do? Feels like a bit of a leap of faith for someone quite new to this.
Okay, It's the server side of things that I really don't know about. Thanks for the help, and I'm looking at your beginners sites too. They look very useful, so cheers for that too.
