    Posted by scribbly

I'm very new to tiki... and quite enjoying the familiarity process 😉

Themes don't make any difference, do they? I'm trying TheNews at the moment.

    Now what happens is:

    1. I upload an image. I've tried both png and jpg
    2. When I click on the display button it opens a new page which displays "http://scribbly.mitupela.net/tiki/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=3&display" but no graphic
    3. When I download the file IrfanView complains that it can't decode the file (for the jpg "Not a jpg. Does not start with 0x3f 0x3f".

So, what's going on here... what am I doing wrong?

    which version are u using?

Try to set the storage for files from db to filesystem.

Maybe this could be an encoding problem related to db-storage of files.

If you have further questions consider the usage of #tikiwiki irc channel.

    Version: 5.3

I'll give that a go... it was just the default, so presumed it was OK?

scribbly, to ensure that you get rid of the potential problems with mixed charsets, please, run the Upgrade again for tiki 5.3 (yes, I know, it's your version, but do that again, after you have a db backup of your site for extra security), and follow the steps at:
    http://doc.tiki.org/Upgrade#Fix_the_encoding_issueQuestion

you might be suffering from that issue, which is known to break image references in the database...
And for some reason, new installations with Tiki up to 5.3 (included) didn't check the case that the db might be in another encoding than utf-8, and at a normal installation, tiki didn't check for that (no it does in tiki 6.x, afaik).

And welcome to Tiki community! 😊

Ah... perfect: thanks!! worked like a charm... I remember not seeing the utf-8 option during installation but thought it was taken care of.

And thanks for the welcome 😀

    he, he, glad it worked!

If you were so kind to keep an eye in this forum, and provide this feedback to new users reporting similar issues (potentially related to this enconding issue, issues in file or image galleries, attachments, etc), it would be very nice from you.

Thanks, and see you around! 😊
