Controlling access to category by group

I know this is possible but cannot figure out how to do it. I would like users to only have access to wiki pages within particular cat1egories. I'd like to assign those categories to a user group — or if optionally — to individual users. Also, I'd like links going to content in a category the user cannot access to not appear as links (just regular text). I think this is sometimes called "see only what you can access"

I'd welcome your wisdom. Thanks!

Hello,

Go to category => admin category, there you can assign permissions for a category to a user group (refered sometimes as jail category).

Ah, my mistake was not clicking on the wrench symbol. Thanks!

I have the category permissions working. Unregistered users cannot access anything. Registered users can view one category and post comments. How can I also separately give each registered user one or more personal pages he or she alone can edit?

How does Tikiwiki handle category permissions when a page has multiple categories? I'd like each page to belong to three categories: a user category, a topic category, and a project category. The user would need to be assigned to all three categories in order to access the page. Is something like that possible? I want this approach so I can also use the category pages to search for wiki pages based on user, topic, or project.

I think Tiki uses category permissions in an OR way, and you want it to work as an AND i think (i.e. view permission should be granted if they have user category AND topic category AND project category)

Generally i would advise against using permissions on different category trees as it can get so complex and quickly can become very difficult to maintain (although the permissions display module Bernard mentioned helps now)

You might like to look at Roles and Templated Groups to see if that might fit your use case. I used it on a recent project and it seems all work ok, but is quite tricky to set up correctly, we have some feedback and another example to add to the documentation one day... but not today sorry wink

Quick answer, there is a "Permissions" module that once placed in a page show you all the information you need to understand what permissions are applied to it.
Check: http://doc.tiki.org/Module-permissions

Thank you Bernard and Jonny. I'm playing with the permissions display module now and will read-up on Roles and Templated Groups.
