Just another TikiWiki admin here to keep up with the changes. I'm actually running a 1.9 RC3.1 site. It seemed pretty stable (or at least the guys at kde think so. Hopefully I won't get burned by database changes or such.
Addendum:
1.9 RC3.1 is really not ready for prime time. I'm thinking of backleveling it to 1.8.
