Re: That confounded Application menu

> How do I get rid of the application menu? - for anonymous users, I mean. Whenever mnu_application_menu (or application_menu) is assigned to either left or right, it seems to be always there, even if I try to restrict it to "registered" users, even editors or admins. I want to build my own custom menus for my anonymous users, dammit.

Make sure "Display modules to all groups always" is not activated, on the Admin > General page (tiki-admin.php?page=general). (I assume you already made the module group assignments, which explains your current frustration. 😉)

While on the Admin > General page, activate "Detect browser language". This will cause Tiki to display translations to match the user's browser language preference. Try changing your own and reload this site, for example, to see how the language changes. Note that this works with a single menu, which simply has its terms translated (at least the ones that have translation equivalents in the specific language file — not all are complete, though of course you can add to the language file at your site if you want).

If you want to substitute whole menus or other content based on the user's language preference, whether that can be done, and how, depends on the part of Tiki involved. I made a siteQuestion that does offer menus depending on language, but it required template file modification. I added a conditional statement in tiki.tpl that basically says, if the browser language is Japanese, then include the file j-menu.tpl here, otherwise, include e-menu.tpl. This is for the PHP Layers menus at that site. I can give more details if you're interested in this method. But this should probably be discussed further in the Tikiwiki Multilingual forum.
