SQL (CONQUERIES)

hi-

my hosting company frequently complains about the number of conqueries i am using on my site and continually forces me to upgrade. when i look in phpmyadmin, the largest table is tiki_history with over 300mb of data stored
is this the cause of the problem??
if i were to limit the amount of history stored would my problem be solved??

they want me to upgrade to a dedicated server 99$/month, even though i have very little bandwidth usage!

please respond ASAP.

The page history table size wouldn't affect the number of database queries unless people are constantly viewing old page versions, which is unlikely. Although there is a lot of data in that table, it isn't normally accessed much.

Looking at the DB access stats at the bottom of your pages, I'd say the number is pretty typical for a Tiki installation, many of which are running on cheap hosting plans. If your host is complaining, I think your best solution is to look around for another host. No way should you pay $99/mo.

Hey Gary how you doing? You just answered this question as I was previewing my answer. Well I think I will edit my answer a bit as you said some of what I was going to.

OK, to exspiro

idea one, as Gary says your site looks like it is running as it should. Nice site is that a custom theme? I will have to explore it some time when I have a moment.

I have a bunch of TW installs and I think that any decent host should be able to deal with it. So as Gary suggests perhaps you should look for other options. If your host is not happy then it is the host that is the problem I would think. TW is demanding but the power a decent server should deal with it.

idea two, Your history as Gary says is really just dead storage. If you can afford the space it should not affect performance. However that is a lot of space for a site you size.

I see you have something over 400 wiki pages. That should not be all that much space depending on how many history versions you are keeping. So I would ask how many versions do you allow on your pages?

I went to one of our family sites that had no limit on history. There were a bunch of pages with like 28 or more versions. When you think about it that many ver of a full page with a big site adds up to a lot of space.

So now I tend to limit the number of versions allowed.

Hope that helps, James

And hey if that is a custom theme and you want to donate it to the TW cause I bet Gary would be more then happy to post it at the themes.tw.o site. Oh sorry just a little recruitment.

Hi,

thanks for all that info as i was very unsure of spending so much on hosting. I do however have it set at unlimited history ot be saved. And this is the cause for the massive DB size, as it accounts for 99% of the 300MB. At the bottom of the pages the count is
