1.9.5 Webmail sending error

I installed TikiWiki 1.9.5 on BlueHostQuestion.

See my TikiWiki siteQuestion (preliminary!)

This is the correspondence with BlueHost about a continuing Webmail sending error:

Dear Customer Support,

Changing to port 26 helped a bit in the way that the former error message removed.

But a new error message when SENDING mail from within TikiWiki, came back:

"Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/clearxst/public_html/tw/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 2160"
and:
"<@tw.cxs2.info>: no local part"

The strange thing is that it here states "..tw...".

  • I nowhere typed tw (I only have a dir /tw where tikiwiki is);
  • I can receive mail just through admin(at)cxs2.info at the same account (NOT admin(at)tw.cxs2.info);
  • sending email through neomail from admin(at)cxs2.info just works;
  • the password in TikiWiki is the same as in BlueHost for the admin(at)cxs2.info account;

What more? Here are the T.W. Webmail settings:

Account name admin
POP server mail.cxs2.info Port 110
SMTP server mail.cxs2.info Port 26
SMTP requires authentication YES
Username admin+cxs2.info
Password (same as in BlueHost)
Messages per page 20

Ofcourse I tried things like tw.cxs2.info in many different ways and combinations (even made an account within BlueHost); but that only gave greather errors, so that is not the way to resolve it.

Any idea?

P.S.:

  • I can receive emails within TW in the same account admin(at)cxs2.info;
  • I can SEND mails from the same account admin(at)cxs2.info, when using Neomail. (but not within TW)

It looks like the email address it is trying to send from (or to, it's rather ambiguous in that error) is malformed. That is possibly due to the first error that has nothing to do with email, it just states that one of the variables is being passed incorrectly. Is there a newer version of that file somewhere? Could you re-upload it to see if something is corrupted therein?

Any clue; should I upload that file again, or is it something else?

Thanks!

New error message (haven't had that one till now) when I just go to look for webmail inside TW:
Notice: Undefined index: Message-ID in /home/clearxst/public_html/tw/tiki-webmail.php on line 425

And when I read an incomming message (webmail however is working):
Notice: Undefined index: Message-ID in /home/clearxst/public_html/tw/tiki-webmail.php on line 160
Warning: mb_convert_encoding() function.mb-convert-encoding: Illegal character encoding specified in /home/clearxst/public_html/tw/lib/mail/mimelib.php on line 129

As before, receiving webmail is just working, only this NEW error messages...

When sending webmail, still the same error and no webmail is send out:
Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/clearxst/public_html/tw/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 2160
": no local part"

(By the way, what is:
"variable references"?;
"reference"?;
"htmlMimeMail"?;
"local part"?
What "index"?;
"Illegal character encoding"?)

Thanks Rob,

I evdn didn't have a php.ini file.
So Bluehost put it back and I copied it also to the Tiki dir.

But I changed everything for hours, without results.

I now have a new domain name as add-on pointing to clarxs2.info/tw,
So I now get the message ... at inmedi.eu... instead of ... at tw.cxs2.info...

I looked in Tiki to change all fields what could affect that.
I looked in php.ini, changed it to many possibilities.
I made a new mail account in Bluehost ad...@in...
I made the same account in Tiki again same error!

I dont know!

Hi - wondering if there's been any resolution, I'm having the same problem with a brand-new installation. Getting this message:

Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/hostaccountnamechanged/public_html/wiki/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 2160

(I changed my host account name)

Well I am glad to see that I am not the only one to have this problem!! (also bluehost but version 1.9.4) I tried installing version 1.9.7 manually but have the same problems.

Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/name/public_html/host/tiki/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 2371

I have an additional error when attempting to send mail::(though I am able to receive mail0:

Warning: fsockopen() function.fsockopen: unable to connect to mail.host.com:25 in /home/name/public_html/host/tiki/lib/webmail/htmlMimeMail.php on line 2151

Any further information from anyone?
