Some funky text editing

I am trying to make a site where my colleagues can add text documents easily. The scenario is that as they call on a customer or learn more about a market segment, they can go to the site and enter the information. The problem is the text editor capabilites in Articles. The tags are not intuitive and will be difficult for an occasional user to submit a relatively decent looking article. Is there a better way to do this. Can word files be imported with format intact; and if so, how. I cannot find anything to make me think this can be done.

If it is set, specific information that they need to capture, you may want to use trackers instead. You can create a web "form" that all they have to do is enter the necessary information.

Hmmm, Trackers, the cause and solution to all my problems. Yeah, I am convinced this whole StickyWicky thing is one big plot to make me look and feel stupid.

FCKeditor is part of Tiki 1.10, which should be available fairly soon. This will provide WYSIWYG editing for those who want it (for wiki pages, articles, blog posts, etc). If the documents you need to make are rather free-form, that could be the solution. The Trackers are strictly form-based, so work where there is a distinct set of fields to be filled in.

Hopefully, Tiki can provide the tools you need without too much hair-pulling. Of course at some point you start looking around for other tool sources. But a lot is possible with Tiki, although it takes time and questions to get there.

Do you know when Tiki 1.10 with FCKeditor will be released?

There was talk about it happening last month but people all have their own schedules/priorities so it just depends on when things get done. It's best not to plan things around anticipated Tiki releases or what they may contain. 😉
