changed template got blank screen problem

Hi there
I wonder if anyone could help me. I had my host install tiki wiki on a windows and it was all working like a dream. Then suddenly it stopped and displays blank pages. If I go to the tiki-admin.php page it displays very badly - I log in but thats it its back to blank pages. I asked my host to change the memory allocation and I have checked file permissions. They suggest I reinstall which seems a bit excessive considering it was working fine. They are very helpful though and would like to offer a standard install service for tikiwiki and so will help me if htey can but they cant solve it.

The wiki is at dogmatch.com.au.k.seekdotnet.com/wiki.

any help would be greatly appreciated
Vivienne

If you changed a TPL page, verify that you have your a matched with every {/tr}. Mismatched tags will cause the page to not display.

I wonder if the problem is caused by something wrong with page layout, either a template or stylesheet problem. Error pages are showing up OK. I tried to access tiki-contact.php and got the "feature disabled" message. But that page is broken in a familiar way. I think when the dogtwist theme was made, error.tpl wasn't styled to match tiki.tpl.

I also tried accessing a nonexistent page to generate the 404 error, and this time the theme used was tikineat.css, which I believe is what Tiki defaults to when the admin and user choices can't be used for some reason. Anyway, looking at the source of the first error page, I see bits of code from the Zuka theme as well as parts of Twist, which is fine if it works OK, but possibly something is preventing normal pages from displaying. I tried seeing pages with a different theme, using the switch-theme URL, but again nothing displayed, so my guess about the cause could be off-base. I would try switching the site to a standard Tiki theme first, though, to eliminate the possibility of the problem being custom-theme-related. If you can't access your admin pages, you'll have to use phpMyAdmin to edit your Tiki database, to change the theme choice in the tiki_preferences table.

Of course the problem could be something else entirely. Usually pages not displaying at all indicates PHP memory being too low. What was it changed to?

The version of the twist theme that is used is old and did not correctly template error.tpl . That is why the error page looks so very different (does not include the header). You should upload the newest version.

The blank pages sure look like a php memory issue to me.

I agree that switching to a standard theme to debug is the best first step. Can you get tiki-phpinfo.php to work using a standard theme?

Hi
I changed the theme back to tikineat.css.
The memory was set to 16 but I am getting it changed to 32
Some pages are still blank though.
I didnt change any tpl / php or anything really as I have only just been trialling it.

I can get the tiki-phpinfo.php to work and I can now see the tiki-admin.php but nothing else.

Thanks again
Viv

Hi Vivienne,

I don't know if you've managed to fix this already, but I had a similar problem that turned out to be a permissions issue on the templates_c folder. Not sure if this will be a problem on a windows box, but I thought I'd mention it...

Hi

I checked and I now have 32 memory. The templates_C folder has read and write permissions. I wonder if there is an issue with the different themes - not sure how to put it all back as it was! If anyone can help or if anyone offers paid tiki wiki tweaking services please let me know on do...@do....

I can now see the tikiadmin page but only that.
thanks so much
vivienne

Thanks Gary - that really helped!

Do you have direct access to the database? You can edit the database tables directly, to reset your Tiki.

Vivienne sent me login info to check the files, and I found that some custom template files were inadvertantly put in the default templates directory, which led to a mix of theme files trying to be used and other little problems that resulted in pages not displaying. I re-uploaded default template files to replace the custom ones and the site appears to be working normally now.

I had the same problem.
First I got a blank screen when trying to access the module options of a specific module I tried to assign. Moving back got me into the admin screen again.
Next, as a first debugging step, I changed the theme and got a persistent blank screen.
Where in the database can I change the theme using phpmyadmin?
