1.9.8 / How can I order my Forums

Hello. Newbie. Tried to search but could not find a satisfactory answer. I would like to order forums in a particular way. Right now they seem to be listed in the order of creation. Is there a way to manipulate the order once they are created? Thanks a lot for all your help.

I'm not aware of any admin method to reorder the forums. If there isn't one, another option would be to edit the Tiki database table to change the creation time of the forums. Not exactly user-friendly, but would work probably.

Gary, thanks for your kind reply. So they are sorted according to the order created. Let me try your suggestion. Worst come to worst I can delete them and create them in the order I would like to see them. Cheers

Yes, you can simply send the sort_mode parameter in the URL. For example:

  • tiki-forums.php?offset=0&sort_mode=name_asc (for ABC order)
  • tiki-forums.php?offset=0&sort_mode=name_desc (for CBA order)
  • tiki-forums.php?offset=0&sort_mode=hits_asc
  • tiki-forums.php?offset=0&sort_mode=hits_desc
  • etc.

I came across this last week. For some reason you can sort by create date only one way, most recent at the top. It's worth pointing out though, that regardless of the order you want your forums to be in, if you employ Sections, then the sections will always be ordered alphabetically.

Might be worth requesting a feature change in 1.10 to allow sorting of Sections and additional sort options for the forums within those sections.

Mike.

Bump ... that is still an issue. Please add an option to sort them the same like menues.

I had the same problem, and found a very simple way to accomplish it:

I put a number before every forum description, and sorted the forums alphabetically:

"1. First forum"
"2. Second forum"
"3. Third forum..."

The creation time in table tiki_forums works for me. Strange that there is no admin setting for this even in tiki7.
