    Thanks Rick,

    The disallow access was on as you suggested. The "(except for those with permission):" clause made me think registered users could still log on. Maybe it should read "(unless Admins)".

    I'll play around with permissions to get it so only Editors can log on, the public can't view anything.

    This is a knowledge base for repairers of a certain brand of coffee machine, access is by invitation only. To register users I add them manually.
