Re: Page name variable...

Hey there Nick;

I am surprissed that nobody has offered suggestions! I think what you are suggesting is quite doable. Perhaps if you look into the TPL files that include “page name??? you will find the variable needed. But I would like to offer different ideas!

My first idea would be to port all your info into TW rather then using an external DB, You could do this nicly with the Trackers or the TW sheet feature. Both of these options would allow you to have your info in TW as well as letting you put the info on your tiki page rather then have a link.

BUT, if you really need to stick to seperate DBs there are other options.

DSN

Tiki has a very nice feature built-in that allows you to extract information from an external database.

So in this situation you would have your wiki page about your server on your TikiWiki page. And those with privileges to work with that page may edit it. OK, great! This is what you all ready have! Unfortunatly, you also want to have a link to your DBs info.

However, rather then having a LINK to the server info DB you can include the information on the TikiWiki page! In this age of the “less clicks the better??? this would help make your visitors see all info with out clicking yet an other link.

Use the search fearch feature to learn more!

Great - thanks for the reply James - very helpful.
It does need to stay in the DB because of other dependencies, but the DSN idea looks promising.

Cheers,

Nick.
