Features / Usability

I want to put ads on my pages.
So how do I do it?
Do I use site identity?
Do I make a module for each kind of ad?
Do I edit the theme?
Do I edit something else?

I want a half banner at the top.
I want some smaller ads on either side.
Maybe one somewhere in the center or at the
end.
