Can we Embed iCal compatible Calendar in Tiki

The Tiki calendar leaves much to be desired and even in 1.10 it still does not work well for people on AM/PM (and it's now almost impossible for a non programmer like me to hack corrections).

Nowadays there are a ton of calendars out there that have great features including e-mail reminders, iCal feeds, easy fltering of multiple calendars... Has anyone had luck in integrating one into Tiki?

Yeah, I did back with 1.9.x (http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?trackerId=5&itemId=1005&show=view&from=Calendar)and I think once after that in re: 1.10.

The calendar has seemed to remain fairly static so my guess is it's not a priority. I know it's all volunteers so no complaints. I do need a calendar on my site and I'm looking at options. I like some of the features in many of the new ones including the ability of one calendar on one site to subscribe (not sure if I'm using the right word) to another calendar on another site and have users be able to filter the calendars. Some calendars also will remind you of events via e-mail. I'm just researching now but the iCal format seems to be one folks are coalescing around.

My particular need is for a number of calendars for a political organization. There are small city sized units and then a larger regional umbrella organization. Whta happens is that users need to enter events in many different calndars and also the calendars get filled up so much they get too cluttered. I want users to enter an event in one place but have it show up on any of the other calendars. All calendars would be filterable to view the local or regional unit. We may be close now on this. I'll let you know.

I also may be able to do some things with SproutBuilder which builds nifty little java modules in a free online builder. I built a super simple one that can show an RSS feed of my Tiki calendar (see my experiment at http://www.bstock.com/aurora/Sprouts/auroracalsprout.html). I may be able to trick it into showing a number of calendars with some ability to filter between them. I'll try to remember to report back with the results!

Thanks Xavi! You guys work hard on Tiki and it is appreciated!

Oops, take the parentheses off the Sprout link above and it should work.

Rick,

Great minds think alike!

I should have known you'd be on to this. I'll give the article a gander and recommend your blog and Tikiwiki for Dummies to everyone!

Took a look -very cool -Thanks and I'll let you know how it goes. I assume it will use all features of a Google calendar -i.e. basically open a window to the real thing. Specifically we want to integrate a number of calendars and have them filterable -checkbox calendar A or B or C or all.

Now for real fun it would be nice to enter location info with an event have it show up as a link in the calendar and as a data point on a Google map!

Gotta dream!

And wowee, I just found this thingie http://ouseful.open.ac.uk/maps/gCalMapGenerator.php which puts a Google Calendar and a Google Map on the same page and plots the locations from the "Where" field in Google Maps. The code generator gives you iframe code. Not sure how that works with your stuff Rick (because I really have no idea what I am doing!).

sorry, the "where" field in Google Calendar. Yeesh, if you find my brain laying around let me know.
