How to use another temporary directory than "/tmp"?

My web hotel won't let me gain access to /tmp, and won't let me use .htacess to override the php.ini file. My question, is there any way I can change the code of the tikiwiki files to make it use a "tmp" directory that I do have access to, under my own root directory in my web hotel?

Ah, sorry, I wasn't clear about this. I can't install TikiWiki at all, because TikiWiki (or the TikiWiki installer) tries to access "/tmp", which my web hotel doesn't allow.

So, I can't use the General Settings to change the name & location of the temp file, which you suggest, because TikiWiki isn't installed yet! Which leads back to the original question, but with a slight modification: Is there someway i can make the installer use another directory than "/tmp"?

Hi Magnus!

An ugly workaround idea:
1- Install Tiki elsewhere.
2- Change the location of the temp file
3- Copy over to this host

What do you think?

Thanks for replying, but I chose another solution: I took my business elsewhere, to a service provider who supports TikiWiki... ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Alas, I wish I could. The php.ini file is somewhere deep inside the web hotel, somewhere I don't have access. And my web hotel won't let me override the open_basedir parameter by placing a .htaccess file in my TikiWiki directory.

Any other ideas? Can I e.g. make a php.ini file of my own?

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately that didn't cut it. I've also been in contact with my host admin, but they just said "no, that won't work"...
