How to populate items from a tracker

Hello,

Here is what I could like to do: take a field from a selected item in a tracker and use it as a filter for listing another tracker. Is that possible?

Here's some detail:

A tracker contains a list of people. One of its fields is a group designator (just a string). I would like to be able to click on a person in the list, and see a list of all the people in the same group as that person.

Impossible?

Thanks in advance!

Karl

This is a complete off-hand response and I've spent absolutely zero brain power thinking about this but have you looked at the Item Link and Items List tracker fields. They allow you to link a field from one tracker to another such that you can view a list of entries from one tracker via the other.

They take some getting your head round if you're not used to databases but they are very powerful when used well. The Linking Trackers page on ))DocTiki(( should help get you started, or even at least give you an idea if this will fulfil your needs.

Thanks for that Darkbee!

I tried it out and it seems to half get me there. I added a field for an items list and did see the referred items from the other tracker. Trouble is that I could only get to see on field. The documentation for the displayFieldIdThere category says:

IN tw>2.0 FieldIds separated with vertical bar to display this list of fields

However, it only seems to ever show the first field.

So, only partial joy there.

Thanks for the reply anyway!!

Maybe you could just create multiple link fields for every field you need to see from the second tracker.

I've only ever used it to show one specific field, so I don't know about showing multiple fields using one defined link.

Thanks, mate.

Yes, that seems to be a working alternative...

Thank you!!!
