Hi!

I'll just describe my procedure for installing TikiWiki here. However there is a good Linux Installation page now on http://doc.tikiwiki.org

download the 1.7.4 tar.gz file and extract into the webroot
run setup.sh with correct parameters, for red hat this would be ./setup.sh apache
login with phpMyAdmin and create a blank database and database username/password.
point your browser to http:///tiki-install.php
enter your database details
click create new database from scratch options
proceed into TikiWiki
where you can then login with admin/admin

Out of interest, what version of MySQL are you using?
phpMyAdmin would be a good tool for you to get as well to test your MySQL database is ok
