Library needs help - Cannot create a blog

Hello - I work as a volunteer at a library and they are having problems with creating a blog. It appears they are running version 3.1

When they try and create a blog, they receive an error that states category mandatory. Unfortunately, it does not list any categories to choose from, it just has a select all categories checkbox (which does not fix the issue).

Any idea why this would be?

How do I turn off mandatory categories for blogs?

One general suggestion is upgrade to Tiki 3.3. I don't know if the library's trouble is due to something in 3.1, but upgrading would bring other benefits anyway. And at my 3.3 site, I can create a blog without getting that "category mandatory" message.

There is a feature in TikiWiki that you can turn on to force any new Wiki Page to have to be categorized. I searched to see if this same featured existed for other Objects such as Blogs and haven't been able to find it. This means that what you are encountering is probably a bug.

Gary's suggestion would also be my first recommendation to try and upgrade to 3.3. If upgrading is difficult for your team (no IT staff) then create a category and assign it to your blog (remember this is just a quick fix to get your blog running).

Please keep us posted on your progress through this forum post. We will do our best to try and get your site running smoothly.

Thanks
Pascal

Hi!

Im new at Tikiwiki, and have intalled Tiki 5.2 and have the same problem with the warning message "A category is mandatory" any time I try to change any wiki page.

I am logged as Admin.

I deleted all Category permissions.

permissions to Admin to do anything is set in Global Permissions.

A category was previously assigned.

I could edit/create/translate any wiki before, don´t know why i woudn´t let me do it now.

Please help!

Thanks for both of your quick response. I was just checking to make sure I wasnt missing something simple. They have both an internal staff tikiwiki and an external public tikiwiki, i just checked the public side running 3.1 and create a blog works just fine.

They have had some issues with "wonkiness" recently with their internal staff tikiwiki, some of them to do with permissions and categories. It sounds like maybe something is a little off in the database.

I will upgrade to version 3.3 this week and will report back if it fixed the issue. Once again, thanks for all of the support!
