I think your problem is you are saying that you upload images but then cannot see them. You need to make sure that you have the correct permissions to see the images, including tiki_p_download_files (I think that is the correct name) if you are using file galleries to store images. It may seem strange to need "download" permission but it is necessary for each user group to have access to see the image.
Another possibility is that you are using the database to store images and they are becoming corrupt (check the administration settings for file/image galleries). I don't have a good solution for this but what worked for me was changing the character set of the database to UTF-8.
