You can easily display specific content for specific groups in any module area. When adding a module, simply specify the Group for which the module should be visible. Please see the docs for details.
If you have a custom module in which you want to display different content for different users, depending on their group, you can use the Group plugin, or use PluginPerm for specific permissions.
