Unable to get Tiki to connect to database during installation

Hello!

I am writing here because I need some help. My boss and I are working on a project to set up a wiki/knowledge base for internal company use. I was able to get tiki running on my home machine and test it out and it worked fine. I was able to use the Microsoft Web Platform Installer and it all worked out great. After I messed around with it and set up a working template, I was able to access my tiki site from another machine on my home network. I showed what I had set up to my boss, and he was very pleased.

Now I want to get it working on our internal network at work, but I'm unable to get it to install via the Microsoft Web Platform Installer as there is a web filter in place at work which is blocking the installation from going smoothly. I then was going to try the "manual install" by following this document:

https://doc.tiki.org/Windows+Local+Install+EasyPhpQuestion

Everything goes smooth but for the life of me I cannot get the tiki installer to access the database I set up via phpyMyadmin. I can very easily be overlooking something simple, as I am very new to mySQL databases and webservers etc. I am using easyPHP Webserver 14.1b2.

When I get to the Set the Database Connection, I get error " Database `tiki`. Unable to connect to database." I set up the tiki database using PHPmyAdmin via easyPHP Webserver following the directions. The DB Server gives me different parameters than local host, so I tried using those but still no luck. Not really sure where I'm going wrong here, but I would appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you!

I'm just alarmed because I saw this step, which suggests to try a different host if I'm encountering problems (which I am lol):

Host: Leave this field as the default. If you encounter problems, try using localhost or 127.0.0.1 instead.

When using easyphp webserver,  I find that using localhost /127.0.0.1 to access to site in my browser doesn't work.  I have to use my IP on the local network.  Is that normal?

And to state the obvious, make sure your password and user is correct, or tiki will never access your database. Dont' ask me  how I know!
