Wiki Access Levels

posts: 2

I would like to impose access restrictions to certain parts of the wiki documents. Is this possible at all. I have several technical groups of varying access and the documentation has sensitive information for the higher levels.

For example:

Tech Support has level 1 access to systems and networks
Operations has level 2 access to systems and networks
Engineering has level 3 access to systems and networks

Engineering would have access all areas
Operations would have access to level 1 and 2
Tech Support would have access to level 1 only in the wiki documentation.

Unfortunately Tiki cannot do what you want yet. The closest thing we have is assigning permissions for categories. This feature is only found in 1.9 which is currently in the RC phase.

See CategoryPermissions for more info (that page needs some work, I know redface)

Thanks - I will keep a close eye on the 1.9 development

Hi Mo,

the pages visible to managers should be categorised with a category "managers" and this category you close for other group by applying category permissions for the group "managers".

In short:
group -> managers
category -> managers
category-permissions for group managers
done

cheers

Thank you.
You've put me on the right path, but I can still use a little help.

I created a Managers group
I created a Managers category

When I try to set perm's for the category
(.../tiki-objectpermissions.php?objectType=category&objectId=2&objectName=Managers&permType=category), there is no column for the Managers group.
Also, I have all wiki perm's unchecked for the Anonymous and Registered groups, and my Registered user is still able to see the page in the Managers category.

What am I missing ??

Hi Mo,

not much time right now, so I try it bullet point like:

  • lefthand main application menu
    menu item categories -> 'click'

  • button 'manage categories' or 'admin categories' -> 'click'

  • column with names of categories
    left besides the categories a few icons
    see a column of yellow keys? -> 'click' the one besides category 'managers'

  • a few tabs
    -> 'click' on tab features, 'tick' appropriate boxes, 'scroll down' and 'save'
    -> 'click' on tab groups, 'tick' managers group, 'scroll down' and 'save'
    -> first tab now with group managers - 'tick' the appropriate permissions

  • you´re done

Now, when you go back to 'admin categories' the key is not yellow anymore, but green, which tells you that category pemissions are active on this category.

I hope, my quick and dirty explanation will guide you through.

Cheers
Torsten
