setup.sh not setting permissions, tiki-install.php not reading them

I'm having some issues installing tiki 1.8.5 on RedHat Fedora Core 3. When I run setup.sh, it doesn't appear to do anything:

[msafford@vasu-test wikiwiki]$ chmod +x setup.sh [msafford@vasu-test wikiwiki]$ time su -c './setup.sh apache' Password: real 0m2.019s user 0m0.016s sys 0m0.037s [msafford@vasu-test wikiwiki]$ ls -la tiki-install.php -rw-rw-r-- 1 msafford msafford 21691 Jan 15 04:50 tiki-install.php

When I change the permissions manually, tiki-install.php doesn't detect them:

Tiki Installer cannot proceed:

The directory '/backups' is not writeable.
The directory '/db' is not writeable.
The directory '/dump' is not writeable.
The directory '/img/wiki' is not writeable.
The directory '/img/wiki_up' is not writeable.
The directory '/modules/cache' is not writeable.
The directory '/temp' is not writeable.
The directory '/temp/cache' does not exist.
The directory '/templates_c' is not writeable.
The directory '/templates' is not writeable.
The directory '/styles' is not writeable.
The directory '/lib/Galaxia/processes' is not writeable.

The directories are clearly showing a mode of 777. I then reload tiki-install.php:

Tiki Installer cannot proceed:

The directory '/backups' is not writeable.
The directory '/db' is not writeable.
The directory '/dump' is not writeable.
The directory '/img/wiki' is not writeable.
The directory '/img/wiki_up' is not writeable.

The directory '/temp' is not writeable.

The directory '/templates_c' is not writeable.
The directory '/templates' is not writeable.
The directory '/styles' is not writeable.
The directory '/lib/Galaxia/processes' is not writeable.

Anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks for the help - everything looks like it's working now (no errors in the httpd error log), but after setting up the DB,
all I'm getting is blank pages. I've increased the memory to 32M, so that should not be an issue.

To make sure it wasn't some cruft left over from my earlier attempts, I reinstalled Tiki cleanly and re-ran setup (which ran without
a hitch), but I'm still getting a blank page after setting up the DB.

Check your session.save_path variable in your php.ini and make sure that location exists and is PHP writable.

It exists and is writable by apache:

[msafford@vasu-test wikiwiki]$ grep session.save_path /etc/php.ini session.save_path = /var/lib/php/session [msafford@vasu-test wikiwiki]$ ls -la /var/lib/php total 24 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 6 12:41 . drwxr-xr-x 19 root root 4096 Dec 13 08:35 .. drwxrwx--- 2 root apache 4096 Jan 31 13:49 session

Did turning off selinux fix the problem?

Do we have instructions for running tiki under Fedora Core 3 with selinux turned on?
