Voting

We are using the Forums as a knowledgebase repository for ideas. I would like to use the voting application to choose the best ideas. When I tested the voting application it did not give me the results that I expected, can somebody explain how the voting feature works?

I think it works like this :
Polls in TikiWiki appear on the right or left of the page. There's probably a way to put polls elsewhere (e.g. in a forum posting) but I haven't figured it out yet.

Creating a poll is an admin role (can non admins do it?) and a pain in the backside.

  1. Click on Admin in the Menu panel and then on the Features icon (the first one). Check that Polls is ticked and, if not, tick it and click on the Save Preferences button.
  2. Click on the :: (or +) next to Admin in the Menu panel and on Polls. You should see the Admin Polls page. Create a new poll : give it a name. You probably want to make it active and accept the default (current) publish date. Click on Save and the poll will be listed below : with ID 1 if it's your first poll.
  3. Click on options next to your poll. This gives you a preview. To add an option, enter it into the Option: entry box and select Save. Adding additional options should add them on, but sometimes it seems to replace existing options. No idea why.
    1. Existing options can be removed or edited.
  4. Now click on Modules in the Menu panel to bring up the Admin Modules panel. At the bottom left is a Create new user module panel.
    1. Give your new module a name (internal : no spaces) and a title. In the data field, to just display the poll, enter (select the right ID for your poll; if you just say it will pick a random active poll to display).
    2. Click create/edit to create the user module.
    3. You'll see your poll in the Assign new module panel.
      • Set the position (right or left side of the screen)
      • Set the order (from top to bottom)
      • Set which group can see the poll
      • Set whether users are forced to see the poll (Visibility)
      • Click assign.
  5. All being well, you should see your poll pop up on the screen. I have had problems with changes not seeming to be reflected, but I'll have a play and try to figure that out.
