Tiki 1.9.1 fresh install ftp only?

i want to install tikiwiki 1.9.1 for the first time and i'm a newbie to tikiwiki

i read the installation instructions for 1.9.1

there's step2 telling to let run the setup.sh
but what if i don't have ssh access and can't run the setup.sh

i found the forum entry about ftp only install on 1.8.3

is there an up to date list/table what to do without the script for 1.9.1
which folders to create, which files and folders to change to which permissions?
to make all the steps the script does by hand?

thanks for help

The best is to follow the instruction that are in setup.sh. Look at the file and you will see the directories and perms needed for your tikiwiki.
(I know - documentation must be updated)

Hi, steflo,

To quote Damian's answer to my query earlier (I think this should work with ftp too because I followed the instructions for ftp when installing my Tiki):

"You simply :

1) Backup
2) Upload/extract new 1.9.1 code
3) browse to (and run) tiki-install.php
4) login as admin (enter the db name, etc. in the form)
5) Choose the 1.8 to 1.9 upgrade script (and click Upgrade)
6) remove tiki-install.php
7) Have a cuppa tea and relax

Easy 😊

So easy in fact Ill put the kettle on now in readyness 😊 "

Yes, someone should update the docs — I'm a little uncertain as to how though. Should there be separate sections - like in the installation instructions page?

I am a newbie too, and, I do not have too much knowledge about scripting and all the technical stuff about the program. However, I like many of the features of tikiwiki, so I struggled to learn how to do the installation.

Here is what I remember from my recent installation without using shell access:

http://treasuresoftheinternet.net/tutorial/tikiwiki/tiki_install_newbies_list.shtml

Rather long, as I am writing it "on the cuff". I might have forgotten some steps, or I might have used the incorrect "technical jargon" so I appreciate any feedback.

My other purpose in writing the above, in a more lengthy version, rather than a quite cryptic format, is a hope that some of those more versed with tikiwiki will write documents of the key features of the program — intended for beginners, not just for expert programmers or tech-savvy people.

It is just like a young child trying to learn the alphabet and eventually understanding and grasping its connection to words, the beauty of language language and power of communication. One can get overwhelmed, without proper guidance. In some instances, people may completely shy away from worthwhile pursuits, like understand Mathematics, for example.

There is so much to learn about tikiwiki. And, it will take "years" to master them without the proper tutorials. At least that is how I feel at the moment with tikiwiki; but I am interested to learn more about it, since I recognize its potential.

I am interested, for example, to learn more about MultiTiki, but I found the current documentation rather confounding for one like me with no scripting and programming background.

So, please bear with us, newbies and technically-challenged individuals, if we can't express ourselves cryptically, sometimes; or, ask what you may consider as stupid questions.

I am even willing to collaborate with others here, to help write some features of tiki, provided you help us understand the nuances of program. However, you have to bear with me, as English is not my native tongue.

As "Alice" would like to insist:

  • "I mean what I say, and say what I mean!"

Unfortunately, sometimes, it does not turn out as I wanted to express what is in my mind.
