Interesting problem with installation 3.0 [SOLVED]

Update: July 9th, 2009

After more discussions with my web host provider, they confirmed they were running both PHP4 & PHP5 concurrently and turned off PHP4. After waiting about an hour I removed the .htaccess file and tried again and everything worked!

So, lesson learned: make sure only one version of PHP is operating on the server.

Original post:

I successfully installed TikiWiki 2.4 and wanted to try a fresh install of 3.0. When I attempted the 3.0 install, I encountered an interesting problem. Here is a brief description:

1) I created a database and uploaded the 3.0 files

2) When I attempted to run tiki-insall.php I saw the web page indicating my web server did not have PHP5. I contacted web hosting company and they activated PHP5.

3) I attempted to run the tiki-install.php but still saw the web page stating I did not have PHP5. I confirmed with my web hosting provider PHP5 was working and they suggested I changed the file extension from .php to .php5. I changed tiki-install.php to tiki-install.php5.

4) I navigated to tiki-install.php5 and saw the "Tiki installer" web page and chose English and clicked continue and was immediately redirected to tiki-install.php and a "404-not found error". I contacted web hosting folks and they suggested changing all .php files to .php5.

5) I batch changed all .php files to .php5. Now when I navigate to tiki-install.php5 I only see a blank web page.

6) I'm now requesting help from the Tiki community. 😀

I'm guessing the problem lies with the fact I changed the file extensions from .php to .php5 and the code in the php files does not recognize the .php5 extension, but I'm not a programmer, so that is only a guess.

So, any suggestions about what is wrong, (or what I am doing incorrectly) and how I can correct the problem?

Many thanks in advance,

~Z

Hi Z Grant, and welcoe to TW Community!
You need the file back to .php (get a clean 3.0 file set for installation, I would say).

It seems to me that something is needed for the php5 to be available for Tiki (maybe the web server needs to be restarted by the sys admins, if they didn't do so? Or maybe Tiki keeps some files in the temps folders (just a guess)?

But for sure, if you rename files, Tiki won't find them since Tiki expects them to be called as they are *.php .

My 2 cents.

Hey xavi,

Thank you for replying to my question and for welcoming me to the TW community. I took your advice and did a clean install, this time of version 3.1, but I still encounter the same problem. Instead of the Tiki installer page, I see the page alerting me php 5 is not available. However, I stumbled upon something that may lead to a solution.

I used phpinfo.php5 to determine what version of php was running. It shows I have version 5.2.5. However, I removed the '5' and was provided with information about php version 4.4.7. Is it possible to have two versions of php running consecutively? If so, I'm wondering if the tiki installation files are seeing the older version of php and not the newer version. I'll contact the web hosting company and see what they think. In any case, I'll report back what I learn.

Cheers,

~Z

Hmmm, I tried to reply directly to xavi, but I received a "404 page could not be found error" within the forum. Instead of creating the page, I'm just replying to my original message.

In reading the documentation and searching the web, I wondered if my problem could be solved with a .htaccess file. I used the _htaccess file provided in version 3.1; however, when I implemented it, I'm prompted to download the tiki-install.php file instead of being directed to the install web page. I stripped the .htaccess file down to just the four "AddHandler" & "AddType" lines and that produces the same result. I guess that wasn't it... 😊
