Category is Mandatory Error

I have three user groups setup with three different categories. Each group is supposed to be assigned to a different category. The categories are as follows:

DM
Dev
ALL

The groups are as follows:
DM
Dev
Registered

The DM and Dev categories are supposed to be only viewed and used by their specific group. When logged in under the DM group, and I try to create a wiki page, I get the error "A category is mandatory". However there is not category box. Even when the group is set to admin category, I still get the error.

Am I missing a permission somewhere?

We deleted tiki and the database and reinstalled it and we are still having the same problem. None of the permissions set are working with the features that we have enabled; calendar and categories.

This is rather disheartening as this is the only wiki that we have found that will work well with our small community.

I am logged as Admin.

I deleted all Category permissions.

permissions to Admin to do anything is set in Global Permissions.

A category was previously assigned.

I could edit/create/translate any wiki before, don´t know why i woudn´t let me do it now.

Please help!

I have solved this problem by changing :

Preference name: feature_wiki_mandatory_category

at tiki-admin.php?page=wiki

by the Option "None"

This must be an error of Tiki because it should let configure a "default" category for new content in some way... if anyone knows how to do this please let me know.

I had many problems with this issue. It is a bug that appears to be in the Ajax coding. The categories do not show in version 6 when attempting to save an edit. The issue lies in the tiki-admin.php >Wiki>General Preferences> and under "Force and limit categorization to within subtree of:"

Choosing the option of "None" will allow the categories to appear, and the staging will begin to function.

Hello, I also have problems with this. The already suggested solutions do not really solve the problem.

When using tiki-admin.php >Wiki>General Preferences> and setting "Force and limit categorization to within subtree of:" to "None" the users are able to edit a page belonging to a specific category. But the category tab is still not shown and after editing the wiki-page does not belong any more to the former category. If the user only has the permission to edit objects of this category, he loses the permission on this page completely!

Any other suggestions?

Found the switch in Tiki 6.2 to get the category box / tab while creating or editing a wiki page.

Admin -> Permissions -> tiki-section -> set the right Can change the categories of the object (tiki_p_modify_object_categories) for the relevant user-group.

In the permissions of all relevant categories also set Can change the categories of the object (tiki_p_modify_object_categories) in the tiki-section together with Can add objects to the category (tiki_p_add_object) in the category-section.

But I'm still looking for the possibility to set a default category for a wiki page when the user did not select a category. I only found the possibility to set a default category for a user group. But my users come via LDAP and they have group settings, but no default group! I have to put them manually in a default group. Any suggestions for this?

Hi

Was this ever solved as this is the most frustrating thing in tiki 6.1. Sometimes I can create a page then other times not (with category mandatory warning). I would like to get this fixed but cannot go live until this irritating problem is solved or an explanation of what I am doing wrong

I cannot duplicate your issues. The "Category mandatory" option works as expected for me (in Tiki 6.1 and 6.2). Can you confirm that you have the Category permissions set properly?

Hi Rick,

I have also suffer from this issue for several days on 3 different TW6.x.

I believe that it appears to people and not to some as there is several approach, uses and understanding of the Category feature. To some what is going on in TW is quite logical for others it is not (at all).

How i make it work for me.

A/ Assign in the general permission of the TW the tiki_p_modify_object_categories to the proper group.

B/ Assign in the object permissions tiki_p_remove_object and tiki_p_view_categor to the proper group.

If i do this it work fine (for me). A user from a group with correct category perm can edit a wiki page and save it.

I don't think it should work this way…
I shouldn't have to grant "Can remove objects from the category" perm and "Can see the category in a listing". I need the object to be categorized, i need a group(s) to edit it. Not to see category and certainly not to remove from a category an object.

This say... In my case (how i apprehend category) this process is far to be clear or logical.

When you "Assign permissions to category", under Permissions -> Category the warning : "You might want to also set the tiki_p_modify_object_categories permission under the tiki section" is not enough. It shoud be in red, big or even be accessible from here (Assign permissions to category).

While on an object permissions i should be able to set all what i need... it don't make sense to set one permission (the category perms for a group) in different place.

Secondly, why the hell do i need a group to see (this is the "go" visual condition) the category tab if in anyway i don't want the group to touch it ? (in some case i don't want the group to be aware of category).

This need some polishing...

For the life of me I could not figure out how to let user add wiki page to a category, or change cateogry, the category tab was just not showing up at all during edit or creation. I found the answer here by the solution above by andig, he/she stated:

Admin -> Permissions -> tiki-section -> set the right Can change the categories of the object (tiki_p_modify_object_categories) for the relevant user-group.

This worked beautifully in Tiki14.0.

Thanks for maintaining these archives of information, the old info still applies today!
