New Private Collaborative Group Website - How can I do this well?
I am looking to use Tiki on a website for collaboration and data organization for a group. We want to keep much of what we do to ourselves, at least for now. We would like to eventually have a more public presence, but only after we have things well developed. So, access control is very important. I was hoping I could get some help in setting this all up.
Generally, the access should go like this:
Public – General: The general public without needing to register. These would be blog posts, viewing public wiki items, viewing public discussion posts, etc. They should not be able to see items for members of the group only.
Public – Registered: The general public, needing to register. These would be the same as Public-General + the ability to edit public wiki items and make discussion posts.
Member: These are members of the group. They can do everything that Public-Registered can do + view and edit items in the member forum, view and edit items in the member wiki, view and edit items in their own private wiki “notebook” (namespace?). They should not be able to see items in the private notebooks of other members.
Work-group Member: I was wanting to have the option to add work-groups. This would be groups of people working on particular projects. They would have a notebook that is available to all members of the workgroup, but not visible to the general members.
Things that would be nice:
Real names shown among members of the group (since this is meant to be an online extension of a group that meets in person), but not visible to the general public.
Can I customize the wiki syntax format? I would prefer a more standards-compliant syntax if possible. CREOLE would be preferable and MediaWiki-like would be almost as good.
Minor note, is it possible to make Wiki links highlight blue (Wikipedia-like)?
I suppose in general, I was hoping for some advice to get moving so I don't end up having to make a large number of Tiki newbie mistakes in settings things up. I would prefer to keep those to a minimum. Any help will be appreciated.
