$_POST["rows"], $_POST["cols"] empty -> cannot open new forum thread, tiki 7.1

Hello there,

I seem to be unable to find a solution to the following problem:

As Admin there are no problems to post to forums - registered users can only answer to existing forum posts. Trying to generate a new thread results in "no forum indicated".
All suitable user rights (i can think of) are set in the forum section as well as in the comments section.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, this is driving me nuts 😉.

Regards, Florian

Hi Florian,

how did you organise your permissions?

Are you using only groups, or do you use object permissions or are you organising with categories - or with a mixture?

Don't worry, we should find a solution.

Your name sounds German - did you ever recognise the German Language User Group -> GLUG ?

Cheers
Torsten

Hi Thorsten,

german I am 😉 - hope my english will do, though... Thanks for the GLUG link anyway!

In fact it's a mix of permissions and categories, but there are no special object permissions set for any forum so global permissions should apply.
It makes no difference if a forum is categorized or not, the error shows up anyway.

Regards,
Florian

Hm, seems my problem analysis was not to the point, so let me describe the symptoms a bit more precisely:

Using Safari I get this error message:

Fehler
Hinweis: diese Variable darf nicht leer sein: $_POST%22rows%22
Hinweis: diese Variable darf nicht leer sein: $_POST%22cols%22

which translates to something like "error, variable can not be empty". The screen at this point is clustered by not correctly aligned parts of the main menu.
After clicking on "show php errors" the display is rerendered correctly and the message about "no forum indicated" pops up.

This behaviour does not occur if I'm logged in as admin or a registered user answers to an existing thread.

These are the php errors shown:
