VERY SLOW: edit page with ext. links

Hi,

(Note: this is my second attempt at posting this, because the original post hung and timed out on me. In this post, I will NOT wrap links
within square brackets, even though that's what I intend. I will use {} instead to represent external links)

When I try to preview or save a page with external links,
e.g. {http://google.com} it takes forever — up to 10
minutes for the operation to complete.

Using {mailto:} or {ftp:} or even {http://142.176.34.56}
links seem OK, only {http://example.com} style links.
Problem started appearing suddenly (at point it seemed to work)
with version 1.7. I upgraded to 1.7.1.1 and problem still
exists.

Even on a brand new install, I still get this problem.

Anyone else experiencing this?

What exactly was the blocking bug that was fixed in 1.7.1.1??

Paul

Hi Paul,

More than likely the slowdown is caused by the caching mechanism of Tiki. If you specify a link between square brackets *without* the nocache parameter, Tiki will download the content of the external link for offline browsing. Depending on the site, connection speed and number of cached links this can seriously slow down Tiki. I would strongly advise you to always add the nocache parameter when defining external links. There is also an option in the Administration panel where you can completely disable any caching.

Regards,

Pat.
